Beijing 5 – Health check It's a cold and wet morning. This suggests a place we are all very familiar with, I know, but no, this is Beijing. My dance course started today, but before the lessons we had to do our health check. There are three main departments in the Beijing Dance Academy - the middle school part (for 11-17 year olds), the undergraduate part (its main part), and the "continuous training" part. The "continuous training" department offers short courses for dancers and dance teachers. I belong to this department. FangFang, PingPing, Feiyan, Liu Yan and I, five of us who are all newly registered "continuous training" department students left the dormitory together at 7:15am (I have now moved to a different dormitory), in order to get to the doctors' department early enough to be at the front of the queue that could possibly be 800 people long. VERY embarrassing, but we all had to carry a small plastic cup of urine. I don't know why we had to have this tested, but didn't really bother to ask. We were given this small thin plastic cup at the registration. It's only about two inches high and had NO LID! Luckily enough, we were told at the term opening ceremony yesterday that "No need to fill it full! It'll be impossible to carry, won't it?! We don't need that much! A third of a cup should be enough!" See, it could be worse. Our head of department's words yesterday indeed made life a bit easier this morning. But still, we all had to walk deadly slow, as steady as possible, staring at our cups and trying not spill any while walking. We had to walk pass several teachers' and students' dormitory buildings, as well as the playground before we reach the doctors' department... Hard to imagine anything more embarrassing than this, isn't it? What a start of the day! And that was only the first test we had to do. Later on in the morning, we had our blood tested and our chest X-rayed too. MeiMei www.meimei.co.uk *Your comments on my website are welcomed and will be appreciated :) Please let me know.
