Following a successful Register to Vote event, Get Active UK is continuing its campaign to improve the number of Chinese voters on May 1st's local elections across England and Wales. Reasons for not voting in the past amongst the UK Chinese population are "not understanding the voting system and ballot papers" and "not knowing who to vote for". To address both these issues, volunteers from Get Active UK will be in London's Chinatown on April 27th to explain to visitors "How to Vote", whilst representatives from the main parties will be invited to provide literature and talk to voters on the day. Christine Lee, leader of the British Chinese (BC) Project and one of the organisers of Get Active UK's voting campaign said "Getting to the ballot box is an important prelude to getting the Chinese voice heard. The more Chinese that vote, the more the politicians will listen and consider our needs and take the community as a whole seriously." Get Active – Get Voting will take place on Sunday 27th April 2008 between 12noon and 4pm in Gerrard Street, London Chinatown.
