Dear friends,

After eight years of living in Upstate New York and becoming an adopted North-Easterner, it's become second nature for me to ask for a bagel and smear (meaning a bagel with cream cheese), but now I have to learn a new vocabulary and culture as I've moved down south to Nashville, Tennessee. I've hung up my snow boots for the warmer climate of Music City; home of country music; top five friendliest city in the United States and famous for it's southern hospitality.

Exciting News! For those of you who follow my writing on DimSum.co.uk, you may be interested to know I will be a guest on a live daily internet radio talk show called On The HomeStretch ™ hosted by U.S. veteran broadcaster Debbie Alan.

About the show (from publicity material):

It's about making the second half of your life better than your first. It's about mid-life living; honestly grappling with the good, bad and ugly in all our stories.

The show takes a real approach to the life and health of today's over 35 crowd. We talk about anything and everything with fascinating guests. Our topics include: recovery, relationships, creativity, beauty and anti-aging, parenting, travel, health and wellness, recreation, hobbies and the latest medical info.

Debbie Alan's credits include Host of the internationally syndicated, "America's Dumbest Criminals" as well as the Co-Creator and Original Host of NewsChannel 5's "Talk of the Town" broadcast in Nashville, Tennessee.

Interview Details:

When: Friday, 5th September @ 8:00–8:27 AM Pacific Time; 10:00–10:27 AM Central Time and 11:00–11:27 AM Eastern Time. (NOTE: Nashville is on Central Time and is 6 hours behind the UK. Therefore, the interview will be at 4:00-4:27 PM GMT).
Tune into the show by going to this link: http://www.OnTheHomeStretch.com

The number to call in LIVE (International): 858-678-8958

The interview could go in any direction, but will probably touch on my identity as a British Chinese person living in the United States; adjusting to American culture; going from north-eastern to southern culture and culture shock; relocating and starting again without networks; my writing; being an older mother and taking a career break, and funny stories and anecdotes.

I hope you will support me by spreading the word about my interview and listening on your computer on 5th September. And, if you feel like it, by calling into the show.

Best wishes,

SUSAN S. CHEUNG

Interesting interview. The Americans do talk fast in Nashville and I think this has rubbed on to you. Fascinating to observe how women can talk so much more than men.

Kickass,

Thanks for your feedback, glad you found the interview interesting.

You'll find Americans talk fast and slow and coming from the NE people tended to talk faster than some other US regions, but what you hear in the interview is just me - I have a lot to say and that not just because I'm a woman, I know many men who have as much to say and talk as much when they get going!

great interview. it's good to hear about your experiences as a BBC living in the UK and in the US.

Dear waiching liu,

Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the interview. It has certainly been an experience living in the States for the past few years. I think living in a different country adds to one's perspective. Indeed, living in another city or town in the UK does that too - well, that's how I felt when I went to a university away from my home town and then to London after I graduated.
