Yellow Earth, the UK's leading East Asian theatre company, and ALRA, the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts, present YELLOW ACADEMY, a project aimed at introducing 16-30 years old British East Asians to theatre and professional acting, through a series of training activities taking place in four major cities in the UK: Belfast, Birmingham, London, and Manchester, from February - August 2010.

East Asians are under-represented within all British art forms - particularly British theatre and television, despite there being a reasonably sized East Asian population in all British major cities. Role models are few and far between and it is difficult to find any East Asian faces appearing regularly in the British theatre or on television. To address this, Yellow Earth and ALRA are working hand in hand to look for the next generation of talented British East Asian actors, by offering introductory actor training connected to East Asian culture to local East Asians.

Founded in 1995, Yellow Earth has been dedicated to the development of British East Asian theatre in the UK and the cultivation of British East Asian theatre practitioners through its producer, director, writer and facilitator schemes. The company has also developed an innovative Education and Outreach programme of which Yellow Academy is an exciting new addition. Over the last 30 years, ALRA has been dedicated to Drama training which encompasses all media: live theatre, television & film, and radio. ALRA is a member of the Conference of Drama Schools, and its courses are accredited by the NCDT.

ALRA sees this unique collaboration with Yellow Earth as an opportunity to provide training for people from all backgrounds, regardless of their nationality or ability. Yellow Academy consists of three stages of activities. All activities are free.

Round One - Taster Talks

In early 2010, Yellow Earth's co-Artistic Director Jonathan Man and ALRA's co-Director Clive Duncan will visit Belfast, Birmingham, London, and Manchester, to reveal secrets on how to get into the industry and provide a taste of what it really takes to be a successful professional actor. They will also introduce the work of both organisations.

Round Two - Audition Workshops

In Spring 2010, we return to Round One cities and offer a practical ‘taste' of actor training through interactive workshops and selected participants will be invited to the Acting Summer Camp.

Round Three - Acting Summer Camp

In Summer 2010, the successful participants will meet in London to take part in an intensive week's training. Free tuition and accommodation will be provided. Participants will work in classes with professional practitioners from Yellow Earth and ALRA, covering Movement, Voice, Acting and Mask.

DimSum fan - When does the residential take Posted 14:35 on 6 March 2010
Anyone know when round 3 the London Acting Summer camp takes place?

I'm going away for a while this summer so whether I go to the London talk depends on when the camp is happening.

Thank youx
