Chinese Traditional Music (Gu Zheng) Recital By Dong Yi
The Scotland-China Association (Glasgow Branch) has invited Miss Dong Yi to introduce Glasgow audiences to Chinese traditional music. Yi has kindly accepted to give a short recital of 'gu zheng', her instrument, on the occasion of the Association's Glasgow Branch Annual General Meeting. At just 20 years old, Yi is already a young star rising in China. She has received formal music education from the age of 7 and has learnt from several masters of her instrument in China. Yi has already won national prizes, cut several CDs and recently appeared in a pioneering music video on national television. She will be accompanied by Mr Ip Kim-Ho, a composer, conductor, cellist and 'yang qin' (Chinese dulcimer) performer, who will also introduce her instrument. Yi says, 'the idea behind my recital is not only to let you experience different musical tastes from different regions of China, but also to showcase how the music was created and developed. I called my recital - My Journey through China‚ because I chose 9 pieces with distinctive local colours from 8 different areas of China. I hope we can take a spiritual journey through China together on that night.' Yi will be introduced by Kim-Ho, who will also present her instrument and introduce each piece of music. In the second half of the recital, he will accompany her with his cello for the two pieces he has specially arranged for this recital. |
