According to legend, Cloud Gate is the name of the oldest dance in China, a ritual 5,000 years old. Cloud Gate dancers are already trained in contemporary and ballet techniques, to which is added meditation, martial arts and Tai Chi. Accompanied by Bach's cello compositions, alternating mirrors allow glimpses of the dancers from different and unpredictable angles, as the entire stage becomes flooded by water, creating a reflective surface in which reality and appearance melt inseparably together. By translating and matamorphosing the essence of Tai Chi into a blend of dance and theatre, Lin Hwai-min has created another milestone in the development of dance. "Asia's leading contemporary dance theatre" (The Times) "Lin Hwai-min has succeeded brilliantly in fusing dance techniques and theatrical concepts from the East and West." (New York Times)
