This year's event will feature an amazing new talent coming out of China: Sa Dingding, winner of the Asia Pacific region who is described as China’s Bjork, mixes traditional instruments with modern arrangements. As well as Sa Dingding the artists performing in this year’s event will be: Cape Verdean Mayra Andrade winner of the Newcomer award, whose beauty and caressing voice is said to “overwhelm souls and sway hearts”; One of the key movers in modern Mali and West African music, Bassekou Kouyate, winner of the African region and Best Album, is a striking and virtuoso player of the ngoni (traditional African lute); Justin Adams & Juldeh Camara, winners of Culture Crossing award, have been described as a “wickedly funky live blues showdown” by Metro. Producer/guitarist Adams and Gambian griot and master of the one string fiddle, Camara, provide an inspired collaboration of desert blues boogie!; and Spain’s Son de La Frontera, winner of the European region, blend flamenco and Cuban guitars they create a distinctive, silvery sound. |
