1 August 2000 Brushstrokes is a magazine of British Chinese writing and drawing, published three times a year, with articles in both English and Chinese. It began in 1995 as an occasional publication of Liverpool City Council's Writing Liaison Office, based at Toxteth Public Library and intended as a service to the Chinese community in Liverpool (the oldest Chinese community in Europe), but it now attracts readers and contributions from throughout the U.K. and even from abroad. It continues to be supported by Liverpool City Council, as well as more recently by the Chinese Arts Centre in Manchester, but it is produced by a team of volunteers who put it together in their spare time. The magazine's achievements were formally recognised by an Award for Excellence from Liverpool City Council in 1997. Brushstrokes has the following objectives: 1. Provide a forum for Chinese people living in the U.K. to discuss
and reflect on their life experiences. United Kingdom 8.00
