Artwork for this exhibition will challenge stereotypical images of 'Chinese-ness' and examine trends & diversity in the social lives of Chinese individuals and families in today's Britain. We aim to exhibit recent and new art from a maximum of 4 photographers/artists of Chinese descent, using photography, film, sound, installations and new media. Ten Thousand Li will be a unique and exciting exhibition that creatively represents contemporary Chinese lives. *Li is a measurement of distance (approximately equivalent to 1.6km). However, the term ten thousand li (wan li) simply signifies a long distance. The title has been chosen to convey how far the Chinese diaspora has travelled. Ten Thousand Li is expected to premiere at the Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool in February/March 2002. (To tour nationally from 2002) The deadline for submission of proposals is Monday 5th March 2001. To apply, please send in photos/slides (Maximum 10) CV, proposal (Maximum 1000 words) and a SAE to: Deborah Chan, |
