My boyfriend (caucasian) is currently in LA visiting his family.
He was on the ph0ne to me the other day and said to me "I have a huge mouth ulcer....I need to get some crysanthium tea."
(I had previously explained to him that according to the chinese, "hot breath", which usualy causes mouth ulcers, spots, rancid breath etc, is due to eating too much fried food, lack of sleep, lack of herbal tea and so on..)
Whilst it's great that I'm able to get him to understand a bit more about chinese culture, habits, traditions (in this case it's "hot breath"), I sometimes find it quite hard to explain certain things because either the words are simply non existent in English, or that direct translation means nothing at all.
Does anyone have similar issues to share? |

| Mine is trying to explain to friends when eating dimsum it is good to drink tea as it will help digesting the food and absorb the greasiness of the food ( blame my grandma who told me this when I was 4) My friends just look at me and think 'is she on something?!?!' |

A while ago scientists found that when food is fried or grilled it creates a substance called acrylamide. At first it was feared this chemical might cause cancer, but that is now considered unlikely

But this chemical acrylamide might still be connected to 'yeet hay' or 'hot breath'. Maybe this is a sign that 'yeet hay' may have some scientific basis? |
