Congratulations to Jie Zheng (China) who is un-seeded and knocked out the number one seed Ana Invanovic (Serbia) in the third round of the Women's Singles in the All England Lawn Tennis Championships 2008 at Wimbledon. For a full report, visit:

It is hoped that she will progress further in the tournament and go on to win the title. All the best and good luck to her. |

Win she did today (1ts July). She beats another seeded player, Vaidisova (Cze) in three sets (6-2, 5-7, 6-1) to advance to the Semi-Finals and become the first Chinese player to reach this stage in a Grand Slam event.
She next meets S.William (USA), the number six seed, who is a former Champion, and hope she wins. Good luck to her. |

From the BBC News website (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7483674.stm):
Zheng, who was born in Sichuan, the province where around 70,000 people died as a result of May's earthquake, has decided to donate some of her prize money to victims in China.
"I would like to give the all prize money but cannot," she said.
"I need to give back to something like the tennis association. Of course I will donate all my portion. Apart from that, I will do as much as I can to help the Sichuan region people because I'm from Sichuan province, as well.
"After going back after Wimbledon, I will do more charity work and encourage more people to come to support the stricken region and hope people from Sichuan will have their new homes as soon as possible." |

I think she'll come a cropper against Serena Williams. Still coming that far is a major achievement |

Sadly, J. Zheng lost her match today (3rd July). She was beaten by S.Williams in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(7-5) in the semi-final match.
Anyway, she has done herself and China proud. For the records, Zheng has also made history to become the first Chinese player (men or women) to make it into the semi-final stage in the Wimbledon Tennis Championship.
It is hoped that her achievements will inspire youngsters in China to take up the game, and hopefully
China will produce a future champion in one of the Grand Slam event. China already produces so many world
champions in Table-Tennis and Badminton. So, I don't see why China cannot produce a world champion in Lawn-Tennis one day. It is just only a matter of time. |

Unlucky for her to come up against the man in the semi's, she played a few decent shots but unfortunately her diminutive stuture couldn't cope with the bloke on the other side of the net.
Also her inexperience showed a few times when she was in advantageous position points wise to take the second set or at least break serve and then keep serve for the game.
Good luck for the other grand slams, I'm sure we'll see more of her. |

Serena Williams is a woman by the way!
She has huge breasts that keep bouncing out of her leotard the 1st time she competed in Wimbledon
She is strong and muscular, but she is definitely not blokey. |

You have mixed doubles but women and men are segregated in Singles.
It is not gentleman like to beat a woman in public and a scandal for a woman to slap down a man in front of the children. |
