Oh I know the answer to this one but it is private.
I am happy to let someone else start with a new puzzle.

Im tired of waiting:
My first is half a square;
My second is a whole undivided;
Five just makes my third;
My fourth is the end of space and time.
Now put me all together;
Fit my parts together;
I die if I get cold;
Yet never fear cold weather. |

One of my favorite sayings is from Edgar Allan Poe. "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream." Mind games are fun!
LOVE is indeed the answer. The last time I used this it had the victim going for days. Your turn.
No I must keep secret. I have made a promise.

mm...you, keiko,your old daddy and now odg...its like a secret society here!
well, l can't post a puzzle until l can figure out the secret. what? not even a clue? l mean is it animal,vegatable or mineral?...is it a word?...its too general as a puzzle don't you think?
by the way, isn't it a nice quiet corner here with all the silly arguments going on upstairs...and l think l haven't grown up...tut tut!
a dream within a dream...l know that saying...haha l am the sandman after all...kinda like that old chinese fable of a man dreaming he's a butterfly dreaming being a man...ahh, We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.
mmm see if l can dream up the answer tonight then...l doubt it though...yeah, victim is the right word! ooh...l hate you colluding conspirators! _________________ we are the music makers
and we are dreamer of dreams
world losers and world forsakers
on whom the pale moon gleams
yet we are the movers and shakers
of the world forever, it seems. |

Ahh not a secret society. I met Keiko and I talk to some other people but others never meet. We not collude. It is just I made a promise.
I am sure Old Dark Ghost is happy for you to make new puzzle. After all, you answer LOVE to me!
Puzzles and a poetry corner is nice. Shows we not all spammers. Politics always gets on my nerves. I get enough of that "back home." |

err, you did read the last two posts didn't you edwina?
maybe we should also give the solution as well as just the answer.
the answer to xueping's riddle was the word LOVE, edwina.
L is the first because its half of the shape of a square
O is the whole...maybe hole haha
V is roman numeral for 5, the third letter
E is the fourth, this is a bit sneaky because it refers to the last letter of the words space AND time...end of space and time!
a turtle?...don't know how you came up with that...
now to business...gosh, being away for 24 hours and argument became a brawl...it saddens me when human beings does that especially when its over something archaic like race...darwin's being dead for over hundred years and yet we still go on about race?
anyway, so does that mean odg is gone? now l'll never know what the secret is...hint hint! still, a promise is a promise.
ok, here's the riddle
There are three houses built exactly the same except One is filled with cotton, the other with wood and the third with iron.
One day an arsonist sets them all on fire. The sound of sirens was growing louder at the scene. People were screaming and shouting. Which house did the ambulance try to put the fire out first? |

My guess at the answer. I'm hoping it's correct, since I only registered to try this.
The answer is none of them. It's a trick question.
The ambulance (and paramedics) would be helping and transporting the injured. The fire fighters would be putting out the fire.
Is that correct? |

I'd been looking at the articles, but I didn't plan to join until my curiosity got the better of me.
A fairly easy puzzle:
After a burglary at the local Post Office , four suspects were interviewed by the police. They made the following statements. The police know that each of them told the truth in one of the statements and lied in the other statement. Who committed the crime?
Alan said:
It wasn't Derek
It wasn't Brian
Brian said:
It wasn't Charles
It was Derek
Charles said:
It was Alan
It wasn't Derek
Derek said:
It was Charles
It wasn't Alan |

That's correct! It's Brian.
From the very first one Alan, we know that either 'It wasn't Derek' or 'It wasn't Brian' is a lie, so that removes Alan and Charles as suspects. We now now that it was either Brian or Derek.
Brian states that it was Charles (which we know is a lie) and it wasn't Alan (which we know is true).
One of Derek's being a lie means it was Charles (which we know is a lie) or it wasn't Alan (which we know is true). That removes Derek as a suspect.
I always hate the maths puzzles and graphical ones myself. Or rather I like them, but they frustrate me because I can rarely solve them. |
