In recent years there has been an explosion in the number of reports of so-called alien abductions and human-alien encounters. From these reports, a picture has emerged of what a 'typical' extra-terrestrial abductor looks like.

Usually referred to as a 'Grey', this archetypal alien creature has certain characteristics that lead me to think that these reports are not so much about people from another planet, but more about people from another country i.e. Asian/Chinese people. Let me put forward the following points:

The Grey has almond shaped eyes. This is also the most obvious and commonly known facial feature of Chinese people.

The Grey is usually male and unclothed but does not possess any visible sexual organs. This conforms to two negative perceptions of Chinese people: The lack of clothes can be seen to represent a primal lack of sophistication or 'civilised' attributes. The lack of sexual organs conforms to the view that Asian/Chinese men are less masculine, non-sexual, 'nerdy' or weak.

The Grey has a bulbous head and possesses vast intellect, but does not communicate directly. Conforms to the widely held view that Asians/Chinese are highly intelligent but reserved and quiet. Also conforms to the view that the Chinese language is incomprehensible and 'alien' sounding.

The Grey controls a craft that uses superior technology that humans cannot understand. Conforms to the view that Asians are technologically superior and have a talent for producing gadgets and sophisticated hi-tech devices.

The Grey performs invasive medical procedures. A manifestation of 'invasion anxiety' prompted by seeing Asians in local communities and the workplace.

In conclusion: These people have not been abducted by aliens, they are just scared of Chinese people.

This theory of mine rests on whether people in ASIA have also reported alien abductions, and if they have, whether they also describe creatures like the 'greys'.

If anyone has any information on this, I'd love to hear from you.

Oh my god - I'm an alien love child. I recognise my almond eyes, short stature and skinny body in the description of greys!!!!!

I reckon that you two, sp and porkscratchings, have all the makings of a comedy duo - you could write for TV - a Chinese version of the Kumars perhaps? Whatever, I am sure it would be very funny!

It would be nice if Chnese idea of aliens happen to look like the average white dude just as greys look oriental, but i think it is unlikely. The UFO cullture originated in America and the west and has been exported to the East where alien sightings have become more common. Previously ood happenings have been attributed to supernatureal causes, but now this is changing. The X-files was popular in China and HK and peeps in HK and China are accepting the image of aliens either as little green men with bug eyes or little greys with almond eyes.

But chinese folks once thought white pple were ghostshence Gwailo (lit. ghostman) And u go to the Western heaven when u die..........

I guess they're our ghosts as we are their aliens - prejudice is fascinating isn't it?

Of course! Ghosts and spirits are probably our cultural equivalent of aliens. Actually, 'gwai' and 'grey' sound kinda similar...

Just what are the origins of the familiar description of UFOs?
I only remember close encounters of the 3rd kind as the 1st film i recall with aliens. All films subsequent seemed to portray the grays something similar.

Coneheads is still my favourite! hahaha!
