Hi There,

I studied BA fine art painting back in 2003 in Brighton. And have been working in fashion, product, graphic and web site design for past three years, before coming back to England in January for my MA Design Studies at Central Saint Martin College.

What about you?

Hi, I'm an amateur photographer. Hope to turn pro one day if I'm good enough. Here's a sample of some of the stuff I do. http://www.webaperture.com/gallery/gallery.php3?act=mb&mid=slcheang

ah from my personal experience, there's rarely any chinese ppl dat are creative. most end up doing the stereotypical maths/sciency courses. i fortunately wasnt blessed with the maths genes, so i ended up doing an english with creative writing degree! i think there should be more chinese ppl studying english-this country needs more bbc authors! we only have helen tse.

i just finished a degree in media arts at university although in my spare time i draw a lot. in fact, i have been drawing since i was 10, although having achieved a bad grade in art and design at GCSE level 10 years ago, this had put me off from studying it as a course

yeah i think chinese people are most creative when it comes to cooking and just making the most out of a situation. They generally don't like to take the easy way out isn't it? what's wrong with a bit or in some cases a lot of hard work?
my friends always say chinese international students study madly & they always stay in their rooms-which i think is perfectly natural considering the tuition fees they have to pay to study here.

lol yep i'm creative. i write poetry (albeit apparently depressing poems..but i think its hard to write happy poems cos they sound cheesy-and since love is the predominant theme in most poems out there-theyre usually all depressing!), i am writing a novel now, i've written many creative pieces for my creative writing modules at uni tho i kinda realised my writing isn't that good compared to others. there were only 2 other chinese people on my course at uni. I like to write articles, can't say i'm much of an artist/painter tho lol. I would like to practice chinese calligraphy one day when my chinese has improved, cos calligraphy is very artistic.

something i found off a website...is there any truth in it?

'This article describes an undergraduate course in creative writing offered by the Department of English at the University of Hong Kong. Most students in the course have Chinese as a native language and have received their secondary education in English. They have had extensive practice in writing English in connection with their studies. The course is offered during the last two years of a three-year degree program, and the actual writing instruction is preceded by exposure to various literary styles and by analysis of contemporary English writings. The student is allowed to concentrate on one genre or experiment with several. This paper specifically deals with prose works, and focuses on the special problems faced by the students as a result of having to write in a second language. Many of these problems are directly related to the setting, the characters and the themes that the students choose, which can be grouped into the western-oriented, the traditional Chinese-oriented, and the present-day-oriented. The language necessarily varies according to a munber of factors, including age, sex, educational level, social status, and geographical origin. Students experience more problems in capturing the language of situations unfamiliar to them than with technical writing details'

I'm a creative, did a degree in Graphic Design and got lucky after I graduated landing a job designing book covers for a major publishing company. Have worked in publishing since and am now Design manager. Manage projects more these days than designing but still love getting involved and seeing a book come into fruition. Good to know there are alot of creatives chinese out there.
