the guardian have this article about people who don't feel they're rich until they 'earn more like £150,000 per household, have paid off their mortgage, own more than one property and send their children to private school'.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,2248481,00.html
I know Chinese people are into money, but do you think that's extreme, or justified? Come on all you doctors, lawyers and accountants (!) do you think money is so important as the article says? |

yes yes and yes
money = material
althought ultimaly I want to live comfirtably in my old age with a wife. with kids gone. I mainly want money to experience as much as possible. once I ahve done something at least once I am satisfied. Once I ahve done all the things I want. Money to me would be like asking a dog he wants to live on Mar's. |

| hello darntart long time no post....money...well if money makes the world go round then it certainly explains why the world is such a mess...which is strange considering money is a concept...also in most religion wealthy people are always frowned upon...eye of a needle and camel for example...l know what money is therefore l never thought about it even though l am unemployed at the moment...to be honest, my brain tends to switch off whenever people go on about money. |

Thanks, I guess I was just interested cos there's so much constant concern about money - in the news, especially with the economy as it is at the moment, and also everyone is growing increasingly materialistic.
I used to be really concerned about money as security, but somehow suddenly find it difficult to be so concerned about the whole money thing now.
Maybe I got knocked on the head or something?! I know its important even more so as most of our parents worked so hard for us when they came over here, but I guess I sick of being a wage slave! |

|
|
| I think your attitude to money depends on what else is going on in your life. When I was a student at university, I had no money to speak of, but had a fantastic life because I learnt to be resourceful with what I had at the time and enjoyed life to the full among the company of diverse and interesting people. When I was in my 20s and early 30s I was all about pursuing my career as each new job would mean a pay rise, and I used my money to buy my first flat, travel and generally have a good social life. I needed money to do things to socialize as I wasn't married, had no responsibilities and many of my friends were "young, free and single". Now I'm older, married, a mother of two young children, money represents stability, a roof over our heads, meals on the table and money for our children's education and future if something ever happens to us and for our retirement. We want to be financially secure as we get older. But money does not buy everything, it doesn't buy happiness. I know quite a few wealthy, but very lonely people. When I see my children happy and smiling at me and enjoying life, I feel as rich as the richest multi-millionaire; when I have friends who come round and bring me food when I'm sick and take care of my children out of love for me; when my small contributions to the community I live in means better services for the old and young, then I feel part of life and rich beyond compare. It's not about the amount of money you have, it's about your attitude to it. It can make life easier, and if you get money as a result of being happy with yourself and what you're doing with your life then wonderful, but it's not the ultimate goal of life, the "be all and end all". |

Money is a medium of exchange for all kinds of resources.
It is only as valuable as the cause it is used for. |

MONEY!!!! I LOOOOOOOOOVE IT!
Shop at Primark & George (make sure clothes tags are handwritten in red-it's good in this case), buy yr books at the library from the withdrawn counter, buy dinners from the reduced shelf section at Asda save money, transit at two places you've never even heard of when booking a holiday, but hey who cares? That just means abit more money in the account to splash out later on the same things! |

Generosity is a virtual.
Spend more and earn more, but also spend wisely. |

I agree with the 1st statement. The money you earn represents society's value on your services. It can be used to exchange (buy) other services.
I personally think money is phenomenally important. It is a liquid form of resource that can be easily used to buy others. It can be accumulated in a way other precious resources like health and time can not.
To me, the 3 pillars of life is Health, Wealth and Time. Each of them as important as the other. Then you have family, friends, contribution to society etc.
TBH, I don't think 20K of disposable income for a family is very much. It's decent for a single person. Even so, if you're working 9-5 or more to achieve it, it's still not ideal.
Why should you spend your precious time doing something as unimportant as working? Life is too short for that. |

Time is indeed the most valuable resource. However, for it to be of value, we need to use it in combination with other resources.
Ideally, our work is in synergy with other parts of our life. It is normally important to work to gain monetary resource, gain friends, connections, and opportunities in life. Hence, most of us would find work an essential component of our life. |

| I persoanlly think use it wise, as you all know money can save you and also can kill you! Use it to help you to become a better person and once you keep becoming better, you will see the true value of it. |

| Money is the root to all evil! We live, complain and work for it, and protect it, and we believe that it define the person we are. They all say 'i am rich' and 'you are poor', I am better than you are because your not as rich me or as good as me to put it. I am middle class and your a chav, etc, and therefore defines the representation of ourselves to the world. We believe that if we have enough of it we can be happy, but the opposite is true. If we have enough of it, people will respect us and women/family/friend, etc admire us. Some people believe that if you can find enough of it, you can have anything you want, women, cars, sex, food, dream, or fantasy. Money does not equate to happiness. Some people search for happinesss by choosing the money route. For that reason some people search for happiness for the rest of their lives and never find it. |
