Hi pensggs,
I hope I'm not deviating from this topic too much. I was also reading something about a personality test called Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (aka MBTI) before I came across this topic. I think you and ZHM may know more about this. I was very satisfied with some of the explanation about my personality. After reading this topic however I'm starting to question my personality trait a bit more (nothing related to PPD though) so that's why I want to try and draw the distinction. I'm sure I don't have PPD but maybe another type of disorder. But regardless this has been a very interesting topic thus far. |

Hi and Wow, this topic is very insightful...a great topic to discuss, one which is of personal interest to me because my mother exudes many of the symptoms listed for Paranoid Personality Disorder (although she is being treated for psychotic depression).
I have always wondered whether Chinese immigrants (1960's) are a key demographic of British citizens suffering from depression, PPD etc, because I feel that there is a sizeable proportion of 1st generation Chinese who are limited to cleaning-type jobs here in the UK. For example, my mother has grasped the English language at the communication level, a significant departure from the business level of English required for middle-class jobs such as receptionist and secretary; surely the lack of jobs available to poor English speakers combined with an isolated social network can lead to depression, i.e. a lack of self achievement and unfulfilled potential.
Maybe I am wrong about 1st generation Chinese with limited English capabilities working in low-level jobs; I wish I could speak from knowledge.
Great community website by the way! _________________ Trial and error isn't a bad way to learn how to build an aircraft, but it can be a disastrous way to learn how to build a civilization - Ishmael / Daniel Quinn |
