Mothers
On Mothers Day, an affirmation to boost a Mother's sprit.
Real Mothers don't eat quiche;
they don't have time to make it.
Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils
are probably in the sandbox.
Real Mothers often have sticky floors,
filthy ovens and happy kids.
Real Mothers know that dried play dough
doesn't come out of carpets.
Real Mothers don't want to know what
the vacuum just sucked up.
Real Mothers sometimes ask 'Why me?'
and got their answer when a little voice says,
'Because I love you best.'
Real Mothers know that a child's growth
is not measured by height or years or grade.....
It is marked by the progress of Mommy to Mom to Mother..........
The Images of Mother
4 Years of AGe - My Mommy can do anything
8 Years of Age - My Mom knows a lot. A Whole lot
12 Years of Age - My Mother doen't know quite everything.
14 Years of Age - Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 Years of Age - Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 Years of Age - That old woman? Ahe's way out of date.
25 Years of Age - Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 Years of Age - Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 Years of Age - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 Years of Age - Wish I could talk it over with Mom.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that it is the doorway to her heart, the place where lover resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty of a woman with passing years only grows! |

|
|
Today, I spent time talking to my mother about the stages of life
According to her there are three stages to an Chinese adult life, relating it to the life of domestic animals.
Stage One - One is a horse, rushing here, there and everywhere, trying to establish a career or a business or a family.
Stage Two - One is a Bull; working hard and steadily in a career, job or business to raise the family.
Stage Three - One is a Dog. One's duty for the family is done. One has retired and now lives with one of the children because of old age. So One becomes like a dog to look after one off spring's house.
That is from the eyes of an eighty years old, traditional mother and wife; who had put family and husband first before herself.
So with Mother's Day arriving, take a little time and talk to your Mother.
Today, I remember my last conversation with my maternal grandmother. That last conversation with her I saw a glimpse of her as 'her own person' without a label or her roles. I saw a young girl with bound feet tittering along with baskets of food during harvest months; helping the neighbours and family to bring the harvest in. The enjoyment of that simple life was in her eyes and in her words. That day, I did not see my grandmother as an old woman weighted down by her chores, responsibility and carrying out the roles accorded to her by her family; e.g. a free baby sitter and a helpless woman needing to depend on her sons. She had died more than twenty years now, but I carry this image of her as a fresh vibrant young country girl in China.
Today, I spend time talking to my Mother, time she did not have when she was a horse, time she did not have when shw was a 'bullock'; but now she equate herself to the role as a 'dog'; I get time to take her out for a walk, time to take her out to lunch, and time to talk about her dreams past and present.
Presents and gifts are the 'thoughts that count' but 'Spending time' knowing your mother is the most precious and unforgetable of gift on this Mothering Sunday. |
