Hi everyone,
I am searching for old photos that shows what life was like for the Chinese in the catering business in Britain, and particularly in London, in the 1950s and 1960s.
I would like photos that shows Chinese people going about their daily lives, including what kitchens and the interior of restaurants looked like, cooks and waiters in their work clothes working, different restaurant fronts, and the streets they were in. Also, what their accommodation was like, and things people did for recreation.
I am an independent film-maker, shooting a documentary film about the lives of Chinese settling in London and Britain in the 50s and 60s. I have many interviews with people talking about life back then, but i have very little in the way of photographs and visuals that illustrate what they are talking about.
I am hoping that some members of this group are photographers, or know of someone in their family who are, perhaps their parents, that took photos documenting life back then, and that they might be generous enough to lend me their photos for inclusion in my documentary.
If anyone has anything that they think might help, please do contact me, and i will tell you more about my film project.
It is a very low budget personal film, paid for out of my own pocket, so i cannot afford very much, but if you would like to contribute your photos, i will happily give you a credit at the end of the film.
Bit of a long shot i know, but if you have anything that could help, please email me back at: davidsan5471@yahoo.co.uk
Thank you for reading.
Yours sincerely,
