Hiya
We have quite a big Vietnamese Chinese that emigrated to the Uk in the 1980's...what I want to know if anyone has found a good Vietnamese (and not Chinese) restaurant in London?
I have found some restaurants in the East End, but their Vietnamese food doesn't compare to the Vietnamese food in Paris... any suggestions? |

| i happened upon a slew of at least 5 vietnamese restaurants down on kingsland road (nearest tube: old st.), north of old street. i'm not sure if there's a community there, as i didn't see markets -- just restaurants. a bowl of pho ranged from £4-7, and from what i could see, the menus were tame (but then i'm comparing it to LA menus). maybe we need to organize a vietnamese taste-testers' group and check out the scene??? :) |

tenpence,
I guess the french have strong historical ties with Vietnam, ergo a lot more vietnamese residents and a lot more vietnamese restaraunts competing for business.
A couple of those at the bottom of Kingsland Road are quite good I think....Viet Ho, I think, is probably the best of them...albeit a bit like eating in a works canteen.
There is a sizable Vietnamese community in Hackney, and some of them frequent the places in Kingsland Road....So I guess they are good as you are going to find in London. |

Hi there,
If you happen to be in South East London, I have popped into the Vietnamese restaurant on Camberwell Church Street and thought it was good. They even do the rice rolls that my gran regularly makes. And it didn't break the bank either!
My parents are Chinese people who were born and raised in Vietnam, but I consider myself Chinese but recognise the Vietnamese element of my heritage. I love Vietnamese food and am really disappointed when I go into a Chinese Vietnamese restaurant and find the food is mostly Chinese.
Hey, are you Chinese Vietnamese yourself? Which do you consider yourself to be more of? |
