i dont hate it but i know i can spend time listening to other, imo, better music.
so popular? within hk community, yes, thats understandable - its a smaller market that the companies obviously have no trouble targeting.
you see cantopop try take on other makrets and it will/has failed miserably.
its the same with any localised market [thats what cantopop is, even by its very name] - j-pop, k-pop; the audience, compared to other bertter-known musical genres are small.
if i was outside the bbc community, chances are i wouldnt even know what cantopop is and if i was outside the community and visiting hk i'd probably even miss it - because thered be a fair amount of western-influenced or western-originating music there as well.
all i can say is that the msuic industry in hk have managed to breed several generations of alike-sounding pop consumers, and repeatedly peddling the same stuff over and over again to a specific market is working.
possibly a case of if it works, why fix it? may as well carry one selling the same old stuff and not pushing boundaries or trying other ideas.
[there are always exceptions to this tho - the irse in popularity of rnb and rap etc] |

the music is all the crap! No difference in the style! They kinda sometimes try to change the style of the music just depending on wots hot at the time! For example rnb or hip hop! Rapping in chinese sucks big time if u dunno how to do it!
Hate the popstars they all just stuck up people who try to get famous just how they look! The singing just sucks! no real talent! Try to play instruments to look good all crap!
THe only yellow star i respect is jay chou! HE can write his own songs n his voice is brillant! |
