Yeah there's no british chinese actors on mainstsream TV.

I recently complained to the advertising standards authority about the recent Orange phones campaign where they use a cartoon 'wiseman' got a bit tedious by the last one the 'boat ninja'..........

Dear ASA,

I sent the followiing letter expressing my anger at recent ORANGE phones campaign, i have received no response from Orange so I am forward this to you, please can you offer help...

I am writing in order to register a complaint about your recent 'wiseman' advertising campaign. I think it was cheap and not as 'clever' as the company like to usually portray itself. I used to work for a company that worked directly with Orange and I was responsible for the graphic design of large scale Orange sponsored events throughout UK universities.

My grieviance is that the adverts got more and more racially offensive and embaressing. The 'wrinkly ninja' bit revealed that the belligerent American Boss stereotype character was favoured over the comical mute oriental. I am mixed race, my mother is Chinese, I have a lot of family on that side. I can definitely tell you that I felt the adverts crossed over the boundaries of taste from into thinly veiled and then blatant racism. Since orientals are the minority minority in the UK, due to what can only be something to do with chivalry we have to put up with this kind of lampooning and disrespect and stereotyping, but I didn't think a company like Orange would stoop so low.

Thanks for re-enforcing racial stereotypes in an already divided and prejudiced society. A great help to the Chinese community.

WELL ANYWAY, got letter back from ASA saying that no one else complained, so they can't "consider intervention if there's no evidence of widespread offence". We really should start complaining more!!! I was definitey irritated by the ads.

That's a good bloody point, all the ads featuring chinese people are offensive and irritating the days. I will definitely complain!
