Hi all, hope you had an enjoyable weekend.

Just to let you know that in the end i decided to take a visit to the Wing Yip supermarket....wow what a place.
Thought i might look a bit strange at the checkout with just a couple of boxes of Char Siu Bao so decided to go on a bit of a spending spree, you should have seen me, i was like a kid in a candy store. Looks like im cooking Chinese food for the next 3 months. ;-)
There was so much selection and since i didnt know what half the stuff was and had to read all of the packaging i found myself in there for about 3 hours. HAHA As extremely helpful the staff were i think they were glad to see the back of me by the end.

I got the Pork Bao i was after and purchased a bamboo steamer also to steam them more authenticaly, made them for my friends and family and seem to have them hooked on them aswell now.
I also decided to try the chicken Bao but have to say i didnt enjoy it as much. There seemed to be a very strong taste of Ginger or something which im not a huge fan of.
I saw this big thing called Durian(?) - was really smelly - what is it exactly???

Chunxueping - I study under the Leung Ting (Wing Tsun) school of teaching. I have always had a love for martial arts and must say that Wing Chun has become a huge passion of mine and devoting my time to it and training up to 10 hours a week has turned my life around for the better helping me gain confidence and focus, change my diet (no, i dont just live on Char Siu Bao), quit smoking and exercise more often.
I have only been learning for 6 months now so am only in the very early stages and have not had an opportunity to practice on the wooden dummy but I am learning the dummy forms so hopefully will have the pleasure in a few months or so.
I can remember all of Siu Nim Tao now and half of Chum Kiu but Biu Tze still needs a lot of practice.
What i enjoy most though is Chi Sao, and the applications im learning is helping me 'flow' a lot better but i obviously havent yet developed that 'super sensitivity' yet. All in good time.

Bhyt - Yeah rush hour 3 is definitely on my 'films to see list', I loved the other 2 films and have always been a huge Jackie fan.
I saw the trailer when i went to see die hard 4 and was in laughing my head off.
That 'Who are you' 'I am Uwe' bit with Chris Tucker and the old master guy made me laugh so much my belly hurt.

And as for MSG...WHY WHY WHY...the takeaways near me use far to much and make the food taste like washing up liquid or summin...yuk...too much of that is a quick way to an early grave.

not a fan of ginger?! though aparently too much ginger is too 'leung'

ah durian...reminds me of chinatown when i was younger. those big spiky fuits that have a 'love it or hate it' sorta smell?!

i like jackie chan too..though bit disappointed he left hk for hollywood. though if he stayed in hk, he probably wouldn't be as filthy rich as he is now or as well known perhaps.

Greetings all,

Im an English guy with a great love and interest in Chinese philosophy and culture and I have recently found the delicious wonder that is Char Siu Bao. (My mouth waters just thinking about them). :P

I wonder if anybody knows of a supermarket in the London Bridge or Croydon (Surrey) area where they sell these so i can steam them at home?

Can anybody also recommend any other delicacies that I might enjoy?

Many thanks

you can get char siu bao/gai bao from any chinese supermarket in the universe. if its london bridge go to chinatown and get it from there I suppose for convenience.
