I think most people know it is unhealthy to eat out regardless of which national cuisine. When you are eating out or having a take away you are eating to enjoy yourself. If you want healthy food stick to your home cookings! Of course there are niche restaurants that survive on attracting the nit pickers.
Most establishments do have a healthy choice but they are usually not as tasty. People should eat in moderation.
The issue of healthy eating is not going to go away though because every year some up start new journalist would think they have discover the holy grail that would change the unhealthy life style of his contemporary and catapult him/her to celebrity status |

you and i both know that wasnt what i meant, and if that is traditional food in your household, then why not?
and just because she is a chinese person on telly, it doesnt mean the rest of us has to give her credit for that alone. if i or someone else find her to be annoying then its because i think she is. chinese or not. 'knocking them down' comments has something to do with personal opinion, just like your opinion brings her back up. |
Yes well I had to eat a lot of that sort of stuff in China (apart from the penis-disgusting idea and could not aford "Still-Alive fish).
However, I enjoy her programme and like her happy enthusiastic approach. If it makes our food (or something like it) more accessible then so much the better. I am look forward to more of her programmes. Is great for people who live alone like me and just want something quick and tasty. |

If rat, cat, penis is traditional, I am being educated.
As for gizzards, brains, feet, stomach, what's wrong with that. It is the 'most green' of cusine, when nothing that is edible and provides nourishment were wasted. It is only in the world of plenty that we looked down at these ingredients. Looking down on these ingredients speaks more of the person than the ingredients. Look at old English recipes, these ingredients were the main protein for the 'common folks'. However, being common these days is being a peasant. How arrogant, narrow minded and pretenious we had become.
I remember a friend, now deceased; who was so desperate to belong, she became a pseudo-American, taking on an American accent and pretending to be what shw was not. She took her own life.
Not all that is fed to us via the UK has to be digested by us.
It is good to see a 'Chinese face' on TV but we got to feel proud of her. Presently in her stage of development she has not earned this honour. How about putting Alan Yau on TV? Why is the TV media not featuring this 'darling of the Oriental hospitality trade'. He is the mover who has been shaping the way 'quality Chinese/Oriental cuisine' is being dragged upwards in ethos. Let us give credit where credit is due.
Being manupulated by the UK media, to present a ;false image of Chinese cuisine is nothing to be proud off. However, when the tide is against you, it is wise to swim with the tide. Let us hope she becomes a strong swimmer and learn to use the tide not only for her own advantage but to take on the 'misinformation of Chinese cuisine by the modern British pretenders'.
As the statement that 'Chinese takeaway' are unhaalthy and accepting this without question is like saying 'Okay, master race, what you said must be correct because you are in charge, so it is alright!. Any cuisine is as unhealthy or as healthy as you wish to cook it.
Bad chefs or cooks and 'need for profit' makes any food as healthy or as unhealthy. Take the lastest fast food entrants, those thick greasy pastry covering minute amount of proteins and overcooked vegetables in saturated sodium flavoured gravy' is as healthy as your local 'sweet and sour chicken balls'.
Let us not accept this 'bandwagon' running down the cuisines of our ancestors without asking for the agenda of those doing this sabotage.
MSG is not meant to be used by the spoonfuls. Bad cooks and bad chefs thought MSG make their food acceptable. A famous oriental TV chef once upon a time used 'five spice powder' by the teaspoonful and when he did 'stir-fry' there was no 'sizzle' when his vegetables hit the wok. We all have to start 'somewhere'. Let us give Ching her chance to become as famous as those before her who made the same mistake in their early days. |

I think the main point is that we should support chinese food as it can be healthy.. I cook it healthily and am vegetarian.
I did not see her diss Chinese take- aways or restaurants but if she did that was a major mistake as her cooking from what I saw used more ingredients than my parents ever did and my father used vegetable oil always as it was healthier. Alienting your own race is REALLY STUPID!!
As a previous post said- I never had sweet and sour pork for dinner and also 2nd generation Chinese are able to have an education and escape communism by setting up food estabilshments in Europe- This generation should be grateful of the hardships or sacrifices their forefathers made and not make comments that they are disrespectful and sweeping.
rant over! |

She is just a Chinese Version of Nigella Lawson - as annoying.
She made the cooking look more complicated than it is. I watched the programme once and it was just once too much. She did not allow the guest to be part of the programme - she wants to show 'exactly how it should be done' & 'she is always right'.
Awful face she made when she was asked for the comment on Chinese ovens (for roasting ducks) being banned. She did not get the question. She made an awful face showing 'the reporter was confusing and she is very clever'. I don't understand why she cannot do it diplomatically and be presentive. Shown on the news nation-wide. How embarrassing for Chinese!
Seriously, Chinese food is easy to cook. If it inspires you, carry on watching. I can't bear it. |

| Perhaps, for a change, you can always watch Gary Rhodes presenting chinese cooking in his programme entitled 'Rhodes Across China' in UKTV Food channel. I find this programme quite interesting as he takes you on a culinary and cultural journey across China. Log onto: http://uktv.co.uk/food/homepage/sid/6676 |
