The Museums Association (MA) Diversify project offers training opportunities for museum and gallery work starting in September 2003 to individuals of African, Caribbean, Asian or Chinese descent, who are underrepresented in the museum workforce in the UK. The MA will provide professional benefits including membership and attendance at conference and seminars to all successful applicants.

MA/Resource Positive Action Traineeships
These six two-year traineeships are funded by Resource, the Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries and the host organisations. Participating hosts in these traineeships are: · Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery in partnership with Wolverhampton Arts and Museums (Ref PAT1)
· Bradford Museums, Galleries and Heritage (Ref PAT2)
· Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston in partnership with Manchester Art Galleries and Tullie House Museum, Carlisle (Ref PAT3)
· Lincolnshire Heritage Service (Ref PAT4)
· London's Transport Museum (Ref PAT5)
· Tyne and Wear Museums (Ref PAT6)

Each of the successful applicants will have the opportunity to:
· Join a museum/art gallery to gain paid part-time on-the-job training over two years
· Take a part-time postgraduate course in museum or heritage studies
· Attend the MA's annual conferences and other events.

Resource-funded Bursaries
During the 2003-2004 academic year, Resource is funding two bursaries to study full-time for one year on a postgraduate museum studies course at University of Greenwich (Ref BUR1) or the University of Newcastle (Ref BUR2), which are making a contribution towards the bursaries in respect of fees. Each bursary recipient will also benefit from associated paid work experience for up to three months in a regional hub museum. However, bursary recipients will have to fund their own living expenses while attending the course.

MA/University of Leicester Bursary
In partnership with the University of Leicester, we are offering a bursary covering course fees to an individual to study full-time for one year on the masters in Museum Studies course starting in the autumn of 2003. The bursary recipient will receive an allowance for books and travel to professional events but will have to fund their own living expenses.(Ref BUR3)

EMMLAC (East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives Council) Bursary Scheme
EMMLAC working with the University of Leicester is supporting two bursaries for the 2003-2004 academic year. EMMLAC will fund course fees for the one-year full-time postgraduate diploma/masters in Museum Studies course and provide an allowance for books and two months paid work experience on completion of the course in a museum or group of museums in the East Midlands. However, bursary recipients will have to fund their own living expenses while attending the course.(Ref BUR4)

Applicants for all the above initiatives will need:
· enthusiasm for developing a career within museums and galleries in the UK
· a first or second class honours degree (or equivalent qualification or experience that will meet university admission requirements)
· eligibility for home student university fees (for example be a national of the UK or another EU country)
· to be of African, Caribbean, Asian or Chinese descent.
