LETS MAKE EUROVISION FAIR, FUN AND UNPREDICABLE AGAIN
SOMEBODY LETS EXPLAIN TO US WHY THE SCORE AT THE FIRST SEMI FINAL WAS:
GREECE 156 (pos 1)
RUSSIA 135 (pos 3)
My theory is simple.
We have Former Soviet Union Countries (12 of them in Eurovision Contest already)
12 out of the 45 countries voting is almost the 1/4
Assuming that one of these countries will come with a well promoted and catchy song (e.g russia and ukraine this year) it will gather about 100 points out of the almost 280 (almost needed to win the competition)
Under these circumstances WHEN WILL A COUNTRY LIKE UK OR GERMANY OR FRANCE OR SPAIN WIN THE CONTEST AGAIN????
NEVER.....
Voting terms have to be re-established, eurovision can't continue like this....EUROVISION has to be FUN, UNPREDICTABLE, FAIR and INNOCENT AGAIN
THIS BLOG is explaining facts...but also searching for new approches and solutions concerning Fair Voting...
Russia's win this year was just an example of what we are about to experience in the following years if something doesnt change IMMEDIATELY....
The purpose of the video is to provoke such discussions...is to make you think about the future of the competition...

and before you ask me...the music behind the video is from a great GOTHIC METAL OPERA BAND called ''THERION |

On the night of the finals, I wrote down 6 songs which I thought may well win which included Ukraine & Russia. So it was not a surprise to me.
In the end, Russia came 1st, and Ukraine took 2nd.
The reason I rated Russia so highly was the brilliant use of lighting to focus all the light on the solitary Dima Bilan at the beginning, then on the small area the violinist, the skater, and Dima. It was a precise representation of the song, filling the aspirational emotion of this song into every member of the audience's heart. This was why it won.
Ukraine's Ani Lorak (Shady Lady) performed the greatest cabaret act I have ever seen in my life. Second is Geri Halliwell's Bag It Up, which British television kept showing for over 3 weeks on various shows after it was peroformed.
Ani Lorak's credentials are quite stunning. She knew what she wanted to do from the age of 4, to sing!
She became Ukaine's biggest star.

As for western Europe's various forgettable entries, but at least they could have been performed by known singers don't you think?
I think Germany definitely deserved to do terribly. The 4 girls who performed sounded and looked like tarts drawn from the streets and given a few weeks' training to sing.
UK's entry was a professional performance no doubt, but the song's theme is mundane, and the stage act was seriously flawed because the 4 people occupied a vast stage area during the performance, and they just could not fill the stage with their act.
France's bearded performance was an arty novelty, but the theme of the song is so trivial that I cannot remember even during the performance. No surprise they didn't do well.
I liked Finland's song. It brought out the Vikings out of those 4 men, a novelty act that truly fit the Eurovision Contest, but it was not an aspirational song, so it didn't do well.
Sweden's lady sang about single people. Encouraging them to bravely go out and date. Nice theme, but definitely not the mood of the east Europeans. They have no such marriage and dating problems of the west.
Norway. Nice lady, nice voice. Pity can't articulate the words.
So my impression is that those near the bottom deserved what they got. |
