On BBC3 this coming Tuesday 23rd March our new Chinese sketch show

Sweet 'n' Sour Comedy

will be broadcast on BBC3 at 11pm and again on Saturday 27th at 10pm.

It features a load of Chinese actors (six!) so its worth tuning in. We wrote it as well, so there's no triads, or kung fu in sight...! We have learned a lot from the "MC" episode and at least this title is not offensive. Or is it? In any event, this is laugh out loud funny in some places and if we are to get a series and continue our steep learning curve, we need all the support we can get. Please arrange to watch it at a friend's if you cant get digital television. I think this is the one.

Sweet 'n' Sour Comedy is a Baby Cow production for BBC3.
Written by and starring Lobo Chan, Paul Chan, Paul Hyu, Michelle Lee, Ria Lina, Su-Lin Looi, Karen Taylor and Matt Wilkinson.

I'm awaiting for the the press to label your show as a poor chinese version of Goodness Gracious Me. ;)

Personally I only found a few of the jokes mildly amusing, but hopefully the show will get better as it goes on though, (and the Missing Chink backlash won't hurt the programme either).

BTW does The Philipino/German girl not like her dad or something?

I just saw the first episode of the show, and do hope that we see a regular series appear from it!

There were some things I liked, and some I did not. Some of the jokes were a little simplistic or laboured. For instance, the fortune cookie thing appeared several times, and was appearently meant to be a running joke. It was not really funny enough. It should happen once, and that's it. The song about mail order brides, and the sketch about the English mail order bride were both funny, though again a little overused. They should have appeared only once. Conversely, the scenes with the mother and daughter were funny enough to see more often, and the FarEastEnders was very funny (though it would lose it as a running joke).

Congratulations to everyone involved.

Ria Lina, the German//Phlipina, has been doing stand up for a little while and has won an award recently I think. The mail order bride song was funny, but I have seen her do it elsewhere and it wasn't as funny second time around (comedy rarely is).

I'm not sure what I was expecting but only found the odd bit funny. I did like the Surly Mei character.

Nonetheless I hope that they get a series as one short show was barely enough for them to make an impression.

I shall write to the beeb and tell them I loved it.

sorry, i just didnt find any of it funny.

i wish you luck on future ventures, but personally i wont miss a series if its anything like this show was.
imo [and it is a personal opinion - nothing else], it was pretty unfunny.

i remember being at the cabot hall show, but sadly dont recall what the comedy was like back then [ok, it was ages ago]

if comparions are held up with goodness gracious me, i can only say that they seemed to score quite well with the broader british audience.
i dont know who sns was aimed at, but i guess it wasnt me. or my friends who watched it as well.

sweet n sour left a distinctly sour aftertaste for me.

I may have been harsh on the 'MC' title - but I rather be frank than too diplomatic.

S+S is a brave start, though it is a bit repetitive in parts (mail-order-bride) and some jokes really fall flat. But it has potential, and the title is excellent - it's old-fashion chinese, yet can be for modern and reflects wot the contents is about - in some way very catchy.

I hope S+S continues to improve and like the OFFICE - will collect some awards in the not so distance future.

Congratulations Paul Hyu - and I hope your next vunture is even more successful and bring more chinese talents to the british arena - that brings me to one issue which I couldn't inderstand - the german/philipino actresses (she's very good, and funny too) - but why have a chinese titled comedy that includes her? Why not titled the programme differently (non-chinese? <- your next venture?). She is definitely one asset u don't want to lose.

Rgds.
