Hi, my name is Mike and I am student at university doing research on the Chinse experience in London. In this capacity, I am looking to have a brief conversation with someone from the Chinese community in London. However, as it more convenient to use this messageborad, I am listing the questions I had planned to ask in my conversation below. Some have already responded, but I am in need of more people to ensure my reserach is representative. I ask that you respond eiher through this service, or directly, to groovski@hotmail.com. Thank you all for your time--I genuinely appreciate it!!
I. Without giving too much personal information, can you please describe yourself - What style of clothes do you wear?
What is your hairstyle and/or the length of your hair?
What kind of music do you listen to? Do you identify with a particular music scene?
Do you associate such characteristics as being distinctly Chinese or Chinese-British (as opposed to, for instance, English or South Asian)?
II. Sense of Self-
What are you most proud of?
Do you have a strong identification with the first Chinese immigrants to Britain?
Do you have a strong identification with the Chinese culture, language and history (even if you perceive your knowledge of the language, culture, or history to be poor)?
Which do you identify with most?
III. Security
Do you consider yourself financially successful?
Would you characterise most Chinese in Britain as being financially successful?
Which of the groups below do you perceive to be the most successful in terms of financial success? Second most successful?

(G) Chinese in region not otherwise listed (please specify)
In terms of overall success, however you define it, which of the above groups has it best?
Do you identify with any/all of the above groups?
Do you identify more with them than with the English?
V. Generational Change
Are you better off than your parents were when they were your age?
Are you better off than them now?
Has there been a noticeable increase in the wealth of your family since first arriving in Britain? Has there been a decrease?
Did you go to University?
Did your parents go to University?
What industry do you work in?
What industry did they work in?
THANK YOU!! |
