Dear All,

I'm currently undertaking research for the China in Cultural Perspective Network(CCPN) at LSE for their BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) project.

If you are interested in sharing your experiences, particularly in how you go about seeking advice I would be very happy to hear from you.

Also, if you know of any BBC Community events over 15th and 16th of August, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Helen T

Hi Helen,

The way you are soliciting a response is statistically skewed towards those who are inclined to communicate via email.

I guarantee you get a biased result.

In your case, you should informally talk to lots of chinese families to find out how they acquire knowledge in order to get a rough idea, then design a proper study to get the answers you need.

My feeling is that if the parents are not proficient in english, they are likely to acquire knowledge through colleagues, family & friends.

Bearing in mind the traditional hierachical mindset of traditional families, they acquire knowledge and use that knowledge differently.

Best wishes,
Edwina

Hi Edwina,

Thank you for your feedback it is very helpful. The BRIC project is a 3 year project and so I am simply initiating interest. We have already held a seminar at LSE to discuss different aspects of the project, potential choices, options and challenges. Please see: www.lse.ac.uk/collections/CCPN/.../BRIC.../BRIC_Project.htm

I have also conducted initial interviews in Chinatown and yes, it's going to take some time to do so. If you have any further ideas, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Helen
