Building on the success of Step Out Arts' British East Asian Choreographers Development Scheme 2009 (BEACDS 09), we are proud to present Stepping East 2010.
Saturday 2 October
10.30 - 16.30: Symposium
17.00 - 21.00: Showcases
An all day event comprising a symposium and a showcase at Greenwich Dance
Symposium: The symposium comprises daytime seminars which are specifically aimed towards performance artists covering topics such as “How to write a successful funding application” and “How to promote and tour your work”, these workshops will be led by Theresa Beattie and Deborah Badoo. Following the seminars will be a debate session focusing on “British East Asian Aesthetics – Real or Imagined?” which will include key speaker Chris Bannerman and an artists panel including Annie Pui Ling Lok and Khamlane Halsackda. Places are extremely limited for the London workshops so early booking is essential.
Showcases: The showcase will feature works in progress by Step Out Arts four new associate artist choreographers: Lucia Tong, Julia Cheng, Jia-Yu Corti and Yu-Yu Rau plus further development work performances by two of last years British East Asian Choreographers Development Scheme 2009 artists Khamlane Halsackda and Chisato Minamimura. A Q&A session will follow the performances, this will be led by Donald Hutera.

Whole day: £25 (£20 conc.)
Workshops only: £15 (£12 conc.)
Performances only: £15 (£12 conc.)

A Showcase evening event at University of Bedfordshire Theatre
This showcase comprises works in progress by Step Out Arts four new associate artist choreographers Lucia Tong, Julia Cheng, Jia-Yu Corti and Yu-Yu Rau. Each of these four choreographers were chosen to take part in Stepping East after a nationwide selection process and have worked with a professional mentor to advance their choreography and dance practice. All four pieces will feature innovative and contemporary choreographic ideas that have been researched and developed as part of the Stepping East scheme which is funded by Arts Council England.
After the performances there will be a Q&A session. This also represents a chance for the choreographers to meet their peers and, in turn, Step Out Arts hopes that promoters and programmers will discover new artists they would like to work with in the future.
