| Has anyone returned to study after a long period at work? If so can you let me know how hard it was? I am just about to embark on a post grad, and I'm kinda worried about going back to school! |

I did my Masters after 13 years of working. I was very nervous, but found I was more motivated this time round. When I did my first degree at 18 I didn't know what I wanted to do and studied because it was expected of me to go to university. Doing my Masters was something I wanted to do after many years of thinking about it. I was very committed to the subject and had my life experience to fall back on. This was very helpful in the classroom, in my course work and writing my papers - I could give real life examples and had work skills to help me. I enjoyed the experience and, after the initial nerves, I was really focused and went to each class, lecture wanting to get the most out of my studies and putting my best into everything I presented to my professors. I treated my studies like I would my job, with deadlines and expectations, with classmates who were like team members and always I had an end result in sight. Good luck.

| Got my 'gown and cap' when I was in my forties. The most difficult part of being a mature student is returning to the discipline of studying and 'handing in my assignments' However, one's life experience allow one to find an easier and different route to achieving the result. Enjoy yourself. |
