Depends on the situation, surely?
You have to weigh up the possible consequences in you participating, or whether you can afford to be "left out", as the risk of your "status" in the "social ladder".
As you can tell from my liberal use of quotes, I think all this office politics is bullcrap. Thank heavens I haven't been in one for a while... bitch, bitch, bitch. The fumes from the photocopying machine are to blame. |

Yep, it's all crap, but it's human nature isn't it? Is there any arena, work or otherwise, where politics are entirely absent?
There are two texts that are regularly bought by managers in organisations the world over in order to further themselves. They describe how to thwart your enemy and ensure your own success. E.g. keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
One is The Prince, by Italian author Nicolo Machiavelli in the 16th century. (It's where the adjective Machiavellian comes from of course). Typical western double dealing one might think.
The other is a little older than that. From before 100 BC. Written by someone probably a little more relevant to most of us here: Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
Yep, politics in everyday life can be ruthless and cruel, but we Chinese can sure as hell hold our own! |

| Agree with Edwina there, there have been occasions where if you give someone enough rope they'll hang themselves. |

Thank you for your venerable support ex-VAG!
Now can you dig this?
"when enemy would not defeat itself, be nimble footed between Judo and Karate styles" |

Not so Kato.
Judo is like the rolling waves. It uses the momentum of an attack to foil the attack.
Karate uses hard force, speed and surprise to destroy a weaker enemy.
The problem with Karate is that the enemy ends up too debilitated to tell you how much it admires your superiority. |

I think you're mixing Judo for Aikido, which uses the attackers forces against themselves.
So in summary, I think you're err-ing on the side of Jeet Kune Do, which is the art that the great man himself perfected, takes all the best bits of the various arts and simplifies them to make them more effective. |

The styles you mentioned is a combination of Judo, Karate and weaponry styles.
Judo and Karate are pure styles of hand combat.
Judo only has throws and floor locks. |
