One big problem with US's democracy is that it is a multi-billion dollar industry that perpetuates itself by roping everybody into politics. Everybody who thrives by publicity is pressured to express a political view in public, to act politically and so on.
It is bad enough that the ragtag army of ignorant, xenophobic badly educated americans that populate the internet and insult other countries to ensure America makes enemies all around the world, and add on loose mouth emotional actresses, then in a world of global media, this spells trouble. |

But we must not respond with Xenophobia of our own other wise we become just a mirror to each others prejudices like US and USSR became in last century.
I don't think that is what Stone said when I watch the video (of course it may have been cut). I think what she say was she had bad thoughts initially about karma and wonder if it was destiny for China because of protests but then she gets letter which makes her realize otherwise and she repent.
Many of my friends in China say similar things. They remember how happy they be for Olympics then next day earthquake comes and they wonder why we deserve such pain. It is natural to search for reasons for these things but when we reflect on them we realize what is truely important that we all in this world together and must help each other.
China's leaders have thanked the west for aid and just today I read that Japanese troops welcomed to bring help onto Chinese soil. I think some great good come from this unhappiness. We must work together and not immediately condem foolish sayings until we read them fully. |

Oh dear, this forum seems to have attracted a few racist bigots lately.
Yup the Chinese people deserved the quake as much as the yanks deserved the twin towers right? The Vietnamese deserved the napalm, the Japanese the atomic bomb and the Africans the famine, nice one, remind me to vote for you when the BNP leadership elections come up.

In a way it is a blessing in disguise. The substandard structures are erased.
There is nothing worst than building on poor foundation.
I wonder if someone is going to suggest it is bad Feng Shui next as according to this article it is not bad karma.

According to the 2nd video (www.singhalaya.blogspot.com), the cantonese speaking presenter said that a reporter popped a question to her asking about her view towards what happened in China.
What she then said suggests that she was trying to keep her views personal and name dropped the Dalai Lama as her friend.
Undoubtedly, she dropped herself into the political arena with her creative thinking.
It just shows how obsessed they are in the US about politics. It is unreasonable to pressure actresses to express their views on politically charged topics. It isn't their job, and it isn't their expertise, and they do not have time to research and think about such matters.
China's response isn't over the top. They are forced into playing hard ball by Mia Farrow's guerilla politics. She is using her standing as an actress to gather support for her anti-China cause. How many people would resist if invited by a big Hollywood actress?
She then use her power base to blackmail prominent colleagues by public interrogation. Basically, if they do not stop working for China, their career would be finished. That's what I perceive as an anarchic dictatress within a democracy. |

What Moi? racist? not likely.
i have heard many people say exactly what you say but no decent person of sanity should take them seriously.
We must not fall into these traps of endless recrimination against each other.

I hope so because I velly good chinee girl, like Jackie Chan (or is it Charlie Chan movie), quiet, obedient, not steal from my employer, do washing, cooking and want to make lots of baby.
I velly well behave in this great country. Sing "God Save The Queen!" ('cos no one else will) and bow my head to nice policeman especially when he throw me kindly against wall.

| I personally think the earth quake is a natural cause, If you want to relate Karma to it, the 911 case would be a better example!I personally believe that if something is beginning to become better, it has to first go through allot of bad. This year for China seems like a test for the country, things have already happened but all we can do is be positive and do as much good as possible. On the bright side: 1. People are learning and understand about China and its people better 2. By seeing how devoted the Chinese people are towards the earth quake, shows the spirit behind the Chinese!(Well i defo respect allot of the people) 3. Its good education is some way to teach the later generation of people. Its simple in a way, like the symbol yin and yang, good and bad? but if you want peace and happiness I guess you need to have both!well this is just my own opinion. |
