Did anyone see this? Some professors assert that East Asians top global intelligence in terms of IQ. The programme asserted this was due to Chinese Confusian principles. What do you all think?
You must watch the series, very interesting. Showed Chinese Malaysians yesterday trying to change the way they look by having plastic surgery. |

If east asians scored higher, then it is an experimental fact.
There is nothing to get offended about. |

i think i have the measure of you Edwina, if someone comes out with a quote that is favourable to Chinese, btw I am Chinese, then no matter how bigotted or racist or onesided it may be its NOT something anyone should get offended about right?
well if its alright with you i find it offensive to brand an entire race of people to be smarter or less smart just because of one or two studies. if Chinese or Asians are so smart then how come China has all of 5 Nobel prize winners compared to say Austria which has 21? does that mean Austrians are 4 times as smart as Chinese? If we take into account the huge size difference in populations between these two countries one could argue that 4 times as smart is a hugely UNDERATED fighre. See what I am getting at Edwina? I would say unless you want to get into another embarrassing round of public debates here again I would call it a day. |

That's funny Edwina, thats just about as weak and unintelligent an answer i could have predicted. Just like Jews who are branded self loathing for supporting Palestinians in their struggle for justice your comment shows how shallow you are. |

I don't think that any race is more intelligent than any other. How do you measure intelligence? It is widely believed that IQ tests favour those with experience of a certain type of education and social background - nothing to do with race or ethnicity. If you watch the programme they do make this point also.
I am of Chinese origin. However, I would not agree that East Asians are in general more 'intelligent'. There are many occasions when I have spoken to people much less qualified than I am academically, but have shown great amounts of ingenuity and brilliance that I only wish I could have. Being good at doing IQ tests or having a witty/smart mouth or having a bunch of academic qualifications does not necessarily mean that you are more 'intelligent' than the next person!
The whole idea of some races being more intelligent than others is a racist idea. That is my opinion. |

BBC1 thats well put and exactly my point. It is offensive to try to insinuate via the back door how one race is smarter than others due to a study. I find it tasteless that just because a particular study is beneficial to ones own race they automatically try to seize it as evidence that they are in someway superior. It rather shows an inferiority complex in my view. |

The program pointed out that no race was more intelligent than the others. The only reason that East Asians have more people proportionally in University compared to others is because they work harder. IQ is not a true measure of intelligence, just a measure of how 'modern' a person is. To claim that East Asian is more intelligent is just as racist as a white person saying that they a superior race based on their colour.
I think the East Asian culture is just as racist as any other culture. Recently in China a mixed race (Black and Chinese) went on a TV beauty competition and received some pretty awful insults. See http://www.intermix.org.uk/news/news_301009_02.asp
As East Asians becomes more prominent internationally, they need to watch out that they do not go down the same route as the Germans in the 1930s.

Thanks for the debate. By the way Medialies, I never said that I hold one particular view or the other, I was just interested in the debate that this programme raised and wanted to listen to everyone's thoughts. I'm quite shocked that you think by merely asking for a view that I am a racist. After all, this was not my assertion.
FYI, I am Chinese/European heritage! |

Chinese do the best in all the schools, that is a FACT in the UK. You can't say it's because the education system favours us either.
If that makes me a racist then so be it!
