Dear All,

i'm from Malaysia, currenty working as a Web Developer (5 year in IT field) , i feel bored in Malaysia...thinking of resigning from my current Job & head off to...somewhere...may be Britain........

Can anyone here tell me about current IT job market in Britain? Izzit easy to get a IT job in Britain? I have a Comp Science degree from a Malaysia university. I heard that in Britain 30% of the salary will be deducted for some insurance thingy? Is that true? Any other deduction? of many %?

regards
a chink from Malaysia.

hiya

IT market in the UK is picking up again, you'd best have a chat with some recruitment agents before you come over to see what jobs are around at the moment, or else look at jobs here: http://www.freelancers.net/ to get a better idea of rates etc. You'll probably need to have something lined up in order to stay.

There's always work around for good people. You'll need to pay tax/national insurance etc, so that's probably what the 30% thing is for, but I'm not too sure how it works out as you're overseas.

Try having a look @ govt sites http://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk/content/working_in_the_uk/en/homepage .html

should give you all the legal info.

Crab,
My Brother in Law graduated from a UK university with an IT degree last year and tried to find work here instead of returning to Malaysia, but he didn't get a single interview. I don't work in IT though, so I don't know what the market is like now.

I assume you have looked at the work permit issues too? It may be easy or difficult depending upon your personal circumstances. I have been looking at recruiting a Malaysian myself, so I am aware of the hoops employers have to jump through and many won't even consider people who need work permits.

You may qualify for the Working Holidaymaker Scheme or the Highly Skilled Migrants Programme either of which allow you to work without an employer having to apply for a work permit.

Look at http://www.ind.gov.uk
