I suppose I do consider myself enlightened on the effects of racism but only as a result of knowing so many chinese (HK, mainland and loads of malay).
This was, at first, as a result of business and grew from there.
I have a few very close relationships with a few and one who I can say I love.
This has left me in an unusual position of allowing me to see at close quarters the effects of racism upon chinese people I know.
I do correct those who use the word "chinky" and stand with my mates against those who would cause harm to them. I do find that most people I pull up about this are not aware that it is considered racist or offensive and is just used as slang.
This may not be a popular piece of news to those who like to think all whires are racist thugs but it is true.
Moving to the BNP.
I find the politics of such as the BNP both stupid in that extreme politicical dogma always requires a victim and illogical in that racism assumes that any one group is better than any other - it is clear to me that this is an error.
Britain had a large powerful navy that allowed us to trade with and later take over half the known world, on the other hand china developed a system of government, writing and culture while we were still hanging around in caves hitting each other over the head with sticks.
Point being that many groups of people developed their own skills and who is to say that one is better than another.
Gweilo. I'm still a little unsure as to how this is used. It seems to vary in it's intent. This seems to range from a general 'white guy' to (forgive my crude words) that white bastard.
I don't hear it as much now as most of the people I come into contact with are aware I can speak a little chinese.

Well I must also go as work will call soon. I'm doing some technical stuff - in a chinese resaurant.

Its slang which do real harm.

What do you think about Mi Gao Huang Chen, a Chinese takeaway owner was brutally murdered in a race attack by a gang of 22 youths in Wigan on 23 April 2005?

I have to agree that whilst "ch*nky" may be a slang term in some quarters, it also serves as a dual meaning for a racist term. The two in this case are not mutually exclusive. Possibly in the same way that "n*gger" also is, except for the fact that "NO" Chinese person would see "ch*ky" as anything other than racist.

Gweilo on the other hand has long since lost it's racist overtones and has entered the Chinese language as slang for foreigner a long time ago. To be used as an insult, it generally needs to be preceded with "sei", meaning dead. I'm guessing that where you heard the term Gweilo as an insult, it was always preceded with this?

I also see that the word chink is hated by the vast majority of the chinese (of all types) I have met. A few brush it aside as the rantings of drunks and idiots but still dislike it.

Many 'White' English (sorry, I still can't think of a better term) don't know this and, as I said, use it as a slang word to mean chinese. No racist intent, just ignorant.

monkey.
Mi Gao Huang Chen's murder can only be looked upon as the actions of a bunch of animals and now they have been found guilty I hope they go away for a very long time.
I am a supporter of the death penalty and can't think of any reason that they would not make a good bunch to start with.
Hope that's clear.

I don't have any time for people that support racism but at the same time I have no interest in the PC lobby that cause more problems than the will ever solve. All I would like to see is everyone living in peace with each other and being happy to leave daft things like skin colour and culture to one side.
I don't care if you worship a god or not or what you may call him. I have no care what colour your skin is. All I care about is are you a good or bad person.
Does anything else matter ?
