I have just read Mr Lind's letter and a thoroughly depressing experience it was too.

 
Chinese issues have been done to death

It is nice to see a British website with a predorminantly yellow outlook. However I cannot help but notice how much of a cliche some of the issues raised were. They were so 'joy-luck-club'. It's always "Oh I am a East-West hybrid. I am neither here nor there" or "Don't stereotype me. I don't know kungfu."

I've been reading the various articles and postings on the dimsum site after a chance introduction a couple of weeks ago. I find the articles fascinating and insightful but I'm still left wondering 'where do I fit in?'

First off, I'm an Englishwoman. I was born here, as was my mother. My father came here in the 1930s. I happen to be half Chinese  and I look totally Chinese. But I'm still an Englishwoman. Describing oneself as "an Englishman" tells me little about you except your geographical location.

I happen to be a Brit (half-Welsh half English)...I met large numbers of South East Asian's who had come to the UK to study at my university. In particular I got to know a lot of Malaysians. One of those became my girlfriend, then fiancee, and we are getting married this year...
