 Welcome DimSum readers for stopping by this fresh new column, LifeStyle. Your blogger here goes by the name of Jeffrey. I was born in Hong Kong but moved to the United Kingdom at a relatively young age to be educated and trained as an all-round designer. Being the only Chinese in my secondary school, I spent my time hanging around many creative British students and have taken on board their British style to combine with my Chinese heritage, creating what I considered to be a unique style and creative mindset,one that I am going to share with all DimSum readers through this blog. What I find with many within the Chinese community is that they have a tendency to assume that anyone can buy style if the cash is available. All I would agree on is that it does allow an easier access to luxury products if you have the money but not necessarily style. For example, you can afford a whole collection of Louis Vuitton products and can be completely covered up in the Gucci monogram or Baby Milo from A Bathing Ape, but that does not mean you will look good (in fact, you might just look rather silly). Style, to me, is how you arrange individual items or elements, utilise them in order to best suit yourself and as a result become a powerful, self-expressing statement. Within this blog space, I will be inviting DimSum readers to get a glimpse of mine, and other creative personnel's lifestyle and our philosophies towards design in general. You can expect the following from this blog, there will be regular updates from me and also guest contributors covering design-related topics, in fashion, graphic, product, architecture and interior design. Interviews with aspiring design students from UK universities and existing designers giving us an insight into the current climate and future prospect in the very competitive creative industry. A feature called ‘a day in the life of...' where we interview individuals and learn how they live their everyday life. Last, but not least, there will be a street style section showcasing collectionsof what I believe to be exciting looks from people out and about in town.
