Introduction

Wai-Po Tang, Troupe Leader of the Rising Dragon Troupe 2001

Master Wai-Po Tang founded the Martial Art Institute (MAI) in 1986. The organisation's training syllabus encompasses both traditional and progressive approaches. Master Tang considers martial arts is a way of life, and it is not exclusively for learning to fight. As such, all elements of the martial arts learning focus not only effective combative techniques but also focusses on health and fitness as well as personal development - That is learning and discovering one self, through accepting one's strengths and weaknesses; and attaining inner peace by overcoming our own insecurities.

The MAI have produced many champions, well known teachers and accomplished students. Master Tang has conducted seminars all over the world, stretching all the way from UK to USA, Sweden, Former Soviet, Former Yugoslavia, Norway, Finland, etc. At present, our Team Sweden has championed the sporting-combat element of the MAI martial arts programme for many years.

Seminar in Russia

Although many excellent practitioners, artists and fighters have springboarded from the MAI, we are still predominantly, a service to the martial artists' lifestyle. Therefore, we welcome anyone with or without experience to join our club - fitness level is absolutely unimportant, as you are encouraged to work within your ability. Our classes are friendly and welcoming, and we always encourage practitioners to help each other to improve, rather than prove one is better than the other.
