The Doncaster Chinese Women’s Group

exists to actively improve the

quality of life for Chinese women

and their families in Doncaster

and the surrounding areas

IN GOOD COMPANY

In the Beginning "We started in the Spring of 1997 following a suggestion by the Workers Education Association to investigate the possibilities of setting up a Parents and Toddlers Group, but soon we realised that the issues raised by the community would be better served by setting up a women's group."

Not to be Confused With...
"We want to provide a better quality of life for all Chinese women and their families. We want an identity for our community and want to ensure that we pass on our knowledge and culture to the next generation. We feel that as a group we are in a suitably unique position to achieve all of these."

Our Triumphs to Date
"Preparing and adopting our constitution, knowing that our committee is committed, becoming more aware of other support networks (including those specifically for the Chinese Voluntary Sector), providing a varied programme of activities for our members, and of course gaining financial support to employ our first worker. The support and advice from both CVS and the WEA has been invaluable and will hopefully continue."

Our favourite thing about being involved in the Group
"Achieving something, realising that as a group we are beginning to share a common vision, getting more involved in decision-making and of course the many socials. "

The Most Important Lesson Learned
"Appreciating that all our members have a fundamental right to be heard and understood and to ensure that we provide them with many opportunities to do so."

The Future is Bright the Future is...
"Well we are keen to establish premises for the group that will give us all a much needed identity. We want to show everyone that we are unique and independent."
