Henry Tanato British Citizen BNAct1981 As the family name suggests, Lind is not native in UK since 1066 Norman period. It is heartening that he has travelled and 'stayed' outside UK/North of London but not lives in the places that he has been to. His belief that 'a' Chinese or really 'Asiatic' lady friend who has chosen to follow him back to UK somehow qualifies him to be less of a racist in UK and find dimsum less amusing as he may have expected to read only about superficial articles on Asiatic people who may be staying in UK rather than 'living' in UK as citizens or have chosen UK as their 'home'. Just passing through all those countries C Lind has cited, I sense his alien status may have clouded his expectations for British people of a different ethnicity from those up North to a degree that he is unable to accept and appreciate that we are all part of a British community on this island by virtue of birth and choice. Instead of wandering all over South Asia and now on transit in Bangkok as an alien visitor, a stay for C Lind in Europe where he is accorded the full 'rights' as a European Community citizen may perhaps open his eyes that he needs to blend into the community and with time get acceptance unlike the 16000 British segregated group in HK who need to appear docile and earn an inflated income there for skills that the people of the SAR will eventually acquire. Hence the British just stay there and not live there, for the majority of them call Hong Kong 'HOME' as well - and these are the British who take pride in their adopted 'HOME' as the British Chinese/ASIATIC do in UK. Chinese people have adopted and lived all over the world outside CHINA since time immemorial. This CHINESE label is a misnomer except for CHINA NATIONALS/TAIWAN for the others have nationalities acquired at birth outside CHINA as in THAILAND where C LIND claims that he is a 'farang' during his stay there. In Thailand, there are British who have become Thais and lose the 'farang' status when they can speak fluent THAI and feel/.accept Thailand as HOME - Lord THOMPSON and a few others. B Grimm a German trader has family who are Thai albeit a successful and thriving business acquired from the past when circumstance made it easy. C Lind serves to confirm the notion that those North of Watford are living in a world of their own within UK and should remain in the heartland instead of galavanting around South Asia and leaving the poor Asiatic girl with his parents. She has chosen to go and be with C Lind and his family in UK as C Lind could not bridge the cultural gap with the family in HK for NOW - just wait until you can have a brood of kids and go visit the HK family. Their sincerity will be evident as Asiatic people believe in FAMILY values while you claim to but have yet to fulfill this quality - how can you when you are in Bangkok and 'gor hock mak mak' - Khao poot my chin,my dee khrup - (NB to editor- this Thai is not profane, just simple Thai remark on sincerity.) If C. Lind wants just superficial information on the ASIATIC community in UK perhaps a Lonely Planet guide book may be a better bet. |
