I'm dying to know how Ruth got on on Chinese New Year! Does she go out with Richard by any chance? It's just as interesting and informative to know about her personal experience as a non-Chinese during the Chinese New Year Celebrations as it is to learn about the tradition that goes with the festivities. I'm sure they loved her, but I've had one(white)boyfriend's mother say, "Imagine going out with a Chinese girl who can't arrange flowers!" !!!! And another (white) boyfriend had a futon, windchimes, bamboo blinds and minimalist interiors feng shui-ed to perfection, caligraphy hanging from his walls, wanted a T'ai Chi suit that would have made him look like Dr No, and as I later discovered, a string of colour-coordinating Chinese girlfriends to go with the decor!! Richard Ng's piece even made my dad laugh, and he's 60 and hokkien, so you definitely have the Tay family seal of approval!! I'm probably not the best person to ask, because I'm not as "in touch with my ethnicity" [cringe] as I feel I should be, but I guess that what you've shown is that all BBC experiences are valid. Dimsum has definitely got me thinking, and that's the point, isn't it? Congratulations! You have a really exciting project on your hands!! |
