I ran into your site via the BBC site. I think it's great
that you are working towards creating an audible voice for
the community. Here in the US, minorities of Asian descent
are often seen as a "model" minority; being seen and not heard,
and thus many of the needs of the community are neither met nor
acknowledged. But it seems our generation both here and in the UK are struggling to establish our identities, as well as our voice. I think ours will be a generation to be reckoned with. Our generation here is getting quite vocal; speaking out at political rallies and performing in spoken word troupes - the subservient, quiet Asian stigma is beginning to disappear. When I visited London last summer, it seemed very cosmopolitan, with many inter-racial couples and ethnic enclaves, but I know I felt somewhat of a racist tint there that reminded me of the States. Well of that, I just wanted to let you know that I applaud you for what you all are doing - make sure your voice is heard, loud and clear. Keep it up. |
