The Community Award was awarded in recognition of Sarah's work on Dimsum.co.uk for her significant and outstanding achievements in the media where talented minorities are under represented in the UK.

Elaine Sihera, founder of the Windrush Achievements Awards commented that Sarah was chosen as a winner because she "set up and manages the unique website www.dimsum.co.uk, a not for profit organisation that is the first online community to enable British Chinese to interact and raise awareness of the complex issues experienced in a predominantly Western Culture. Dimsum.co.uk successfully unites a geographically and culturally disparate community."

Sarah Yeh, founder of Dimsum.co.uk said "This year has been particularly difficult for the Chinese community in the UK. The outbreak of SARS has had a negative effect on the Chinese community and Chinese owned businesses here and we've tried to counter this and other issues faced by Chinese people in the UK by offering a podium where Chinese and non-Chinese peoples' views on living in a multicultural society can be heard. This theme of inclusion runs through everything that we do and we're delighted that our hard work in new media has been recognized and hope that news that we've won this award will inspire other people who are concerned about the lack of representation of ethnic minorities in the UK, to make a difference"

Dimsum.co.uk was also runner up in the Small Business and Technology categories.

The Windrush awards, supported by the Teacher Training Agency, is an annual event organised by Eliane Sihera, leading authority on diversity management in the UK and editor of New IMPACT Journal, exists to publicly recognize Black, Asian and Oriental individuals who have made an impact in their field or occupation to identify visible minority role models in occupations where they are under represented such as, Education, Banking, Broadcasting and the Uniformed services. It is hoped that this will encourage others to aspire to work in these professional fields.
