We are British Chinese taxpayers.  We dont abuse the benefit system, unlike the English do.  They can claim benefits even when they are able to work.  For instance I know people who has children that are 2years old and plus, they can claim up to £1000 a month, live in a council house, with boyfriend too, who doesn't work.  They dont plan on getting a job.  WHO NEEDS TO WORK THEN?  Some of us taxpayers dont even earn that much a month.

Then you get the Europeans, eg: the Polish, coming to the UK.  If they are working no problems.  But there are a lot of them not working, on benefits, living in council houses, also can claim child benefits for their children still living in Poland.  That is not right.  The government shouldnt pay out to people who dont work or pay any taxes.

In a Chinese business you have to employ Chinese people to work for you, the English don't communicate well with us, also they are not prepared to work our long hours or our opening times.  Therefore employing people from overseas is so much helpful.  Also they do pay their taxes and dont claim benefits, unlike some of the english always claiming benefits.  It seems like our tax money is paid to those who abuse it.

The point is why make work permits for the Chinese so hard...?  We work and pay taxes.  The government should be pleased they are making money out ot us.

The issue is if work permit or other visas that allow people from overseas to work in the uk is easier, then there wont be illegal immigrants working.  Bosses wont need to or accidently illegally employ them.  Because finding staff in UK is very hard, since the young Chinese generation that are brought up in the uk don't take on the family business.  So they are left with not many choices, their hopes are on work permits.

My opinion is the goverment is doing it deliberately, so they can make more money out of business people by fining them for employing illegal immigrants.

What will happen if they cant afford to pay the fine?  Put them in jail?  Then their business will have to close.  Therefore, no business no taxpayers, staff will be out of jobs meaning they will have to go on the dole, claim benefit for a change.  (Sounds good for some..!).

I find it ironic that the offspring of immigrants who moved to Britain for a "better life", are themselves considering moving abroad. It seems that every generation has an ideal country to live in; for the 60s the UK was far better than most countries in the world, nowadays it's one of the worst in the developed world. Shame.

The world is unfair. That is life. .

A parent will feed only their children even if their own children are errant. That is life.

A foreigner is a foreigner. An outsider is an outsider. You look after your own.

The question is 'Does the government treats all its citizen equally?. And the answer is 'NO!'.

As a citizen in UK, and as a child of the aame parent, I expects to be treated equally as a 'white cascasian citizen'. And I am not.

The government do not give me the same support it gives to its white managed hospitality and catering businesses. It does not give the same support to non white ethnic businesses ( e.g. funding of training to support these businesses).

Let's not divert the issue being 'White' versus 'Yellow or Black'. It is about the survival of UK businesses owned by UK citizens.

I understand these issues are being addressed and hopefully 'common sense' will prevail over the need by the governing party to get 'votes'. Pretending the present immigration problem is 'Chinese and Indian' instead of the new EU immigrants is a deviation from the truth and fact. Chinese and Indians immigrants do not take employment away from UK citizens. EU immigrants do take jobs away from UK citizens.

I disagree with Janet Lim. I have come across 'Chinese, Thais and Vietnamese' people, who had taken advantage of the UK generous benefit system. To pretend that all Chinese and Orientals are beyond the 'pale' does us no favour. The argument is not about 'white' people being lazy. The question is about the human right to be allowed to earn a living and being treated equally if you are a UK citizen.

I still have some faith in racial equality and media representation. Has anyone seen the Halifax advert with the chinese guy doing the song and dance routine? You got to laugh!
Jeff Posted 11:47 on 3 April 2008
Yes, making a twat of yourself, how on earth is that racial equality.

Janet, I don't believe that the arguments that you raise are valid and here's why, I think why:

Benefits
Your 'Daily Mail' approach is insulting to all the people that have no choice in claiming benefits. I was previously a benefits advisor working mainly in the Chinese community and the majority of the claimants had no other choice, single parents, disabled and long term ill. There are a very small minority of people who claim benefits because they are 'work shy' but it is in no way representative of all claimants. Anyway your taxes just don't go to paying them - what about your state pension, or when your are pregnant (maternity pay) or when your looking after children (child benefit and tax credits) and God forbid you become ill and can't work.

Employment of illegals
The fact of the matter is that employers don't employ illegals cause they have the skills, they are given work because their wages are low. There are many people who were out of work because they had been priced out of the market by 'illegals'. it may be that the next generation may not choose to work in catering, however I know a good few who still do (some with a good education) but there are many other people who have been here for years who have the skills but are not employed because they are considered too expensive and/or too old.

Well, its a silly advert I agree but that's how adverts are supposed to work, but the subtle point I am making is that it is not rooted in typical stereotypes i.e. comic chinese accent, a catering setting or a kung fu scene...for me in a cultural media shift in mainstream marketing compared to say a decade ago in how chinese people are portrayed. The race issue is a too deep subject to debate here.
thomas - thanks H Posted 21:40 on 3 April 2008
Just also to add to thank H whoever you are, for your unspoken aid for the chinese community, you deserved a lot of credit, also your insightful comments strike me as how it is. Thanks

Janet would have a point, were it not that a large number of Chinese Restaurants and Take Aways employ staff and don't pay NI or Tax for the workers they use...

I agree, i myself am half malay. My mother(malaysian) who has been an NHS physiotherapist for over 2 decades has always paid more than her share of taxes has never claimed a mpenny out of the system.
I having served 4 years in the british army and have been paying taxes since i was 16 have never claimed off the government. And now having enrolled in university to study for a physics degree which i am having to fund completely off my own back.
I find it sickening that having spilled blood sweat and tears guarding this country's policies for most of my adult life being told im on my own regarding further education which is in all likelyhood going to benefit this country...
F**k the breeder who think that by shooting out b*****d offspring is a better alternative to working, F**k the government who seem to think its okay to penalise those who work hard to support the economy, and f**k the EU who think the UK is a great place to dump those who would be a drain on their economies...
In closing the chinese on the whole are some of the most hard working people i have met, and i apologise for this excessive rant.
