Based on the unprecedented success of the 1999 & 2002 MP Shadowing programmes, Operation Black Vote supported by The Electoral Commission and in collaboration with the main three political parties is proud to announce the third MP Shadowing Scheme. The scheme aims to nurture future leaders, and encourage and inspire Black and other minority ethnic (BME) communities to positively engage in civic society. Participants will also gain a better understanding of the political process and will be equipped with essential skills and knowledge to consider becoming active in party politics. OBV invite Black and minority ethnic individuals 18 years and over to apply to join the scheme. The programme will allow twenty-one individuals to shadow Members of Parliament from constituencies around Britain. Participants will assist the MPs or Peers with their daily work for a minimum of eight (non-consecutive) days over a six-month period and will gain invaluable experience of parliamentary politics both at Westminster and in the local constituency. The scheme is nationwide and applications are invited from across the country. We will select 21 people from African, Asian, Caribbean, Chinese and other ethnic minority communities. Twenty one candidates will shadow MPs and active Peers from the three main political parties: Labour, Liberal Democrats, Conservative, with seven places per party.
