So there I was thinking fervently that I really could do with a reading from a Chinese astrologist but was having difficulty finding one, when I am contacted two days later by yes you've guessed it, a Chinese astrologer!

Did the heavens answer my cry or did Chinese astrologist Ting-Foon Chik hear my mental plea across the thousands of miles of oceans and deserts that separate us? (Actually that's a lie, as I later discover she's based in Richmond whilst I'm in Camden, so that's about 16 miles, but still!)

And yet before this week I had never even contemplated getting my destiny read. Strange things happen or maybe sometimes your paths align and you feel that yes maybe the heavens and the stars are listening after all.

Ting-Foon Chik - Feng Shui Consultant and Chinese astrologist

A professional practitioner of Feng Shui, Foon offers advice using a combination of Chinese Astrology, face-reading and the I-Ching. She claims to provide insights to the past, present and future and offer guidance on making the most of your life journey. 

And her website states that she combines ‘the practical with the esoteric in helping clients in personal and business matters.'

I decide to put Foon to the test and arrange a reading over the phone. My cynical antennas were up, as even though I was looking for Chinese fortune reading, the rational side of me was still quite sceptical. Suzie Wong never goes into a situation without being prepared O reader fear not!

Personal astrological reading

Prior to the reading I send over everything Foon needs to prepare my ‘Four Pillars Life Chart' - including my date of birth, location and time of birth. I didn't actually know my time of birth but my mum tells me it was between 12am-3am so in the end Foon has to prepare two slightly different readings and we go through which one most sounds like me.

She tells me that I am unusual in that I am a wood person through and through. I was born in the hour of the wooden ox, on the day of the wood monkey and in the month of the wood pig. My element is wood (could this explain why I have an affinity for trees and forests I wonder).

She also says that since 2008 I have moved into a new ten year luck pillar - quite a shift from the one before which was full of water. In this luck pillar there is a presence of fire which will really help burn up my wood elements and balance me out.

Apparently this coming year - the Year of the Metal Tiger could really be my year and bring about lots of opportunities which I must seize upon. As I have lots of wood already in my chart metal is helpful when it comes with fire as fire is what I most need.

Face reading

As we are unable to meet in person I send her a selection of photographs including front and profile views so she can give me a character assessment.  She tells me my forehead is in proportion to the rest of my face is well balanced which shows determination. My nose shows good vitality and that I like spending and I'm no good at saving (so true!). My full lips show that I am affectionate and their strong definition means I'm a good communicator. The shape of my eyes reveal an emotional person whilst the slight upturn of my chin offsets my nose apparently  - that though I like spending I'm smart enough to build up my assets.

Conclusion

I was a bit sceptical at first but speaking to Foon put me right at ease. She was very thorough and if I could say anything about her qi I would say she was very welcoming and intuitive. Her interpretations were spot on as I have felt in the past year or so that my luck has been changing and before that I was stuck in a bit of a rut. If anything the things she said left me feeling very charged and energized about the future and ready to tackle what's round the corner.
