Feng Shui for business
We previously have had a good look into diverse Feng Shui concepts such as the Qi, the Yin and Yang and the Five Elements. We have also seen what you should be looking for when choosing a new home. Now is the time to have a look at the Feng Shui specifics for business.

It is important to understand that while using similar concepts, business Feng Shui is not to be approached the same way home Feng Shui is. The reason behind this is that the requirements are not the same. For example in a company’s building, enhancing the relationship of a couple is an irrelevant concept. Bear also in mind that in most cases you do not live or sleep in the business premises; so the major factor that is bed position to balance your life in residential Feng Shui is obviously not present there. While health and wellbeing have to be taken into account, the first criteria we need to focus on is to create a steady money income and constant flow of customers.

So what should we look for in business premises?
First we need to separate three different types of business: - Online business: for these companies the logo, website design and location from where most of the business is done will be important; date selections techniques will also be very helpful;

- Home based business, self-employed: in such case, a home Feng Shui consultation is actually appropriate, while also focusing on what the business needs in the room where it is done from. Looking at the Bazi is also very important to understand to compatibility of the people with the type of work; if the compatibility is not optimum then suggestions can be made to slightly change the way the business is done;
- Companies in business premises. This is what interests us in today's article, focusing on the Feng Shui setup of such places.

The concept behind a successful business
I have previously explained that enhancing all areas indiscriminately like the Ba Zhai (8 mansions) school does is too much of a general approach and not a recipe for greatness. The same logic applies to companies. In home Fengh Shui consultations, the process is as such:

- Identifying the main Element influencing the place;
- Analysing the chart of the people living in and understanding what Chi they need;
- Matching both by converting the house element to support your individual chart(s).

In business your chart, called Bazi, is not so important. It is a guideline to know in which area you should work or put your desk but it is not the basis of the business audit. What is important for a business is to determine the main element that rules the business; and then convert the premises to support this element or bring it in. Then naturally money and customers will follow.

The Metal Element and the watery shapes and colours reinforce the Water Chi for this business

Not all businesses are created equal…
The Element of the business is a very important concept to master – this is the key to efficient business Feng Shui. For example a computer or electronic shop tapes in the Fire Element. A bar works with the Water Element. A psychoanalyst works with the Metal Element, a florist with the Wood Element, a real estate agency with the Earth Element, and so on… Sometimes businesses are actually a mix of more than one Element.

So what does that means in term of Feng Shui? Well let’s imagine you have an electronic store and try to enhance all the Elements, including Earth and Water; and then as you have read about the famous “Water Dragon wealth formulas” you decide to add a water feature in the mix… Well as Earth weakens the Fire that rules your business and Water controls it, quickly the business is going to slow down before going down the drain. However, if you identify the Element of the business and enhance this one only, then the business will thrive. It is exactly like having the right type of soil and minerals for the type of plants you want to grow – you don’t need the same thing for tomatoes, a pin three or elderflowers.

So how to choose the right business premises for your activity?
Honestly it takes a Feng Shui consultant to identify the Element(s) ruling your business and then knowing if the building fits the requirements. The Element taken in is identified with the facing direction and the main door location to simplify. So basically having the same building on one side of the street or on the opposite side can totally change the future of your business! Of course some aspects that we were looking for in homes are still very much valid when looking at businesses. In particular:

- The Celestial Animals formation. It is very important for the building not to lack any White Tiger, Green Dragon, or black Tortoise. As a reminder the Tiger is the right side of the building inside looking out – so when facing it it’s actually the left side; the Green Dragon is the left side – so right one when facing it; and the Tortoise is at the back. It is better to have a slightly higher Dragon than Tiger; however as the Tiger relates more directly to money income it should not be lacking. The Dragon relates to fame so if it is missing or too small the business can attain local fame but probably not beyond this scale.
-the Ming Tang or hall of light. It is very important for a business to try to have a broad main door and a wide space where the Chi can gather both outside and inside the building. A constricted space or a building facing a wall are not great options and will limit the opportunities of the company.
- Beware of the surrounding Sha Qi. A pole or pylon in front of the main door splits the Chi and weakens the business as well.
- Likewise, look at the back of the building – a sharp angle pointing at it or a smaller building that seems to be “piercing” the back are not auspicious for the longevity of the business.

The building orientation, the surroundings streets and the façade decoration all contribute to the Feng Shui of this place

What should you do if you are stuck with the wrong type of building?
This is where Feng shui can totally turns your business around. If your premises take the wrong Qi in – meaning the wrong type of Qi for your business – a business Feng Shui consultation will show you how to turn things around. By doing some work on the main door, a conversion through colours, looking at external and internal water exits and stimulating some specific points, we can convert the Qi and brings the right one in. As a Feng Shui consultant it is always very satisfying to me to do businesses premises – either in London, the rest of the UK, or somewhere else. While in residential Feng Shui the effects show over gradually, in business the results are sensible in the first month already. So if you have done all what you could to try to succeed with your company and business is still slow, it is time to call me in to see how we can transform your premises and turn things around!

I am moving to Vancouver in December; therefore this is the right time to book your Feng Shui consultation while I am still in the UK.
