I am opening a Chinese school this weekend and invite anyone wishing to learn to read, write and speak Mandarin to come along to a lesson. The classroom is in the conservatory of my home and there are no more than 10 students per class. The emphasis is on learning Chinese language and culture in a fun and enjoyable way. We will be incorporating cooking, gardening, arts, songs and play into our £10.00 lessons.

Come and join the fun!

Very interesting, but I haven't noticed this until now.

Is this running every weekend?

Hi Edwina,

We are open this weekend. There is one class on Saturday at 9.30 - 10.30am.

Normally there are two Saturday classes, the other being at 11.30 - 12.30pm but as the majority of the students attend private independent schools, some are going away on their Easter break this week, hence the reduction to just 1 lesson for Saturday 24th March.

Please come and visit us, we have a lovely decorated learning room with lots of books, dragons, flags and other items made by the students, and meet our fantastic teacher, Amy Tsai.

Mei

Looks like this caters for children & teenagers mainly, and not for near retirees like me.

Best wishes to your fantastic school.

Hi Edwina,

I've had some interest from parents and adults for lessons so there is a possibility of holding adult lessons between 10.30 - 11.30 on Saturdays, I'll be back in touch if these classes start.

Kind regards,

Mei

I wish you well in your venture. I wish there was an adult school in Swindon. I am finding learning via CD is very restrictive. I can understand more Mandarin than I can speak. And I can write even less. Although using the Suguo input on my computer is very helpful. And using the QQ international has been helpful too. The translators there help for any words/characters I do not understand.

Thank you for your kind message. It is an altogether different learning experience going to class as opposed to learning alone from audio material. It really makes a difference being avpble to practice with a native speaker, so it may be worthwhile looking for a local language exchange in your area on somewhere like gumtree.com.

I can definately see the demand for Mandarin language rising.

Good luck and best wishes!
