Some 200 guests and arts lovers were celebrating the grand opening of the first and only Vietnamese art gallery in the UK, Apricot Gallery, in Mayfair, London, on 22 April 2010.
Though the five artists whose artworks are currently exhibited at the gallery were unable to attend the event due to the recent ash crisis, most guests commented that they were stunted by the high-quality of their artworks and thought as if they could feel the spirit of the artists through their dynamic paintings.
Stephanie Prentice, the Manager at Apricot Gallery, said their paintings are all deserved to be in any collection or for investment.
When asked about how Vietnamese contemporary art sit compared to contemporary Chinese or contemporary Indian art, Stephanie commented: “It is difficult to compare Vietnamese art with Chinese art or Indian art because they are two very large countries and a powerful nation to support behind.
“In both countries, there has been established a group of capitalists who have economical power and passion in developing the home country’s art. However, with the unique character of Vietnam, we think that the art of the Viet also has its own voice.”
The current exhibition, themed Genesis, is now open for public viewing and purchase until 22 May 2010. The next exhibition will be about the poetry of Motherland showcasing the beautiful artworks of Hoang Duc Dung and Tran Luu Hau, from 15 June 2010 onwards. |
