The London Jing Kun Opera Association(LJKOA) is a not-for-profit society set up in March 2002 to support and promote the learning, appreciation, and practice of Jingju (Beijing/Peking Opera) and Kunqu (Kun Opera). LJKOA was incorporated as a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee in September 2007. It is the only organisation in the UK that promotes both Jingju and Kunqu Opera.

UK Research and Development Centre for Chinese Traditional Culture presents 6 lecture-demonstrations with workshops to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of London Jing Kun Opera Association

(Lecture 1) Launch Event

 

Sunday 25/3/2012, 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm

 

The Art of the Kunqu Opera Dan – performance, lecture and Kunqu singing and movements workshop by Kathy Hall, with costumed performance of In Pursuit of the Dream from The Peony Pavilion, accompanied by the LJKOA Kunqu Ensemble -Jack Footitt (dizi), Ying Wan (drum and clappers), Ruard Absaroka (sanxian) and Xiao Wang (erhu).

 

English and Chinese surtitles provided.

Jingju and Kunqu Opera Percussion –

lecture-demonstration and hands-on workshop by Ying Wan, LJKOA chief percussionist

 

Beginners welcome! You might like to your hands on the cymbals, gongs and even the drum!
